in pokemon firered and leafgreen what is altering cave? does a pokemon apear there and how do i make it appear

it seems like there should be something there but there isnt and the guidebooks hint that something happens there but they dont say how to make it happen or what happens

Here's the answer.

In the game's programming - it's designed so that certain wild Pokemon from the 2nd generation (Johto in this case) could become wild in there. Originally it was intended to use the Altering Cave to get some Johto Pokemon but because of the GameCube games (such as Colosseum and XD) - they decided to forget about it.

Basically how it was supposed to work is that you would go to a Nintendo event and a Nintendo person there would use a device to change the wild Pokemon in the Altering Cave.

Because they decided to not bother with it, there's no way to get the Pokemon to change in there.

when you get 5 stars on your trainer card you can catch a mew in there. Yes my mew is lvl 100.
