Technically it is #1 b/c I have never heard of a #1 pencil. Let's say there is no such thing so the #2 is actually the #1

Because when you are using a pencil, especially for a test you want to do your best. A #2 pencil, just like Avis tries harder.

It's the weight of the lead in your (??? LOL) pencil, the more weight the lead has the more definite strokes that one can make with it, if the lead has no weight then it will not end up counting because to make a difference a thing has to be seen and paid attention to.

The # refers to something related in the pencil...the reason there so great is because of the lead and amazing real wood.

Pencil #1 won't get over its status and won't hand over its reign to the #2, because #2 is unbelievably and incredibly gracious, which unfortunately #1 can't live up to so it's just not giving up its famous reign and status. Poor #2!

Because of the lead...you can see what you are writing.

**** THE STORY OF #2 ******

Long long long time ago,

#1boy was a famous writer
and #1girl was a popular editor

and on the great fateful day, they met :)

They call each other mushy names like #1a and #1b.

and they were #1 no more when they got married, they became known as #2a and #2b in each other eyes...
and their family name was #2.

The #2 family then grew to great fame and popularity...years went by and they are now centuries old...they still love each other as much as on the day they were married :)

And thus they are still the #2 family.

*And the story continues in your hands ......

:) :) :) *WINKS*

because then it would be #1 and all those scantrons and pencils would have to be recalled because they all say #2 and nobody has the time or money to do so.
