2 typical reactions, they either roll their eyes and sort of "huff" or they want to know more and are genuinely interested.

I make disability determinations so I hear the following things:
"Is it really true everybody gets denied the first time?"
and another big one, "Can I get disability?"

And it seems like everybody knows somebody with a disability story. It's either something like, "Yeah, ya'll denied my uncle and he needed a heart transplant. Explain that one." Or, "Yeah, my grandpaw's been on disability for years for his back and I've seen that man throw bales of hay all day long. He gets $2,100 a month and still raises cows for a living and hasn't ever been caught."

I just listen and nod or say I don't know. I just do my job and follow the rules. I don't feel like talking about a bunch of bullshit government rules when I'm not at work. I hope someone can relate.

First, I tell them that I work at a hospital, and their first question is whether I'm a nurse. No, I'm not. Then I say I work in the kitchen and I make sure to include that I don't actually COOK the awful food.
