I've got some nuts, and a quiet, powerful air rifle. Send me up in the attic. Squirrels will be gone in no time flat. I could trap them, but that's extra. Plus, there's no guarantee they'll go for a trap.
just a helpful thought

Smoke bombs forget it, possible fire hazard. Moth balls don't do it the fumes are heavier than air and you will smell it all through your house plus you don't have enough to cover the whole attic. Now it comes down to what kind of squirrels are they. Flying squirrels can have a one way door with trap over opening and the rest of the holes that are entrance and exit points sealed you will have them removed in around two days.
Tree squirrels, like red squirrels, or even grey and fox squirrels place trap near opening yes even on the roof, with somthing under the trap so not to damage any shingles. I like to place more than one trap (live). When you dont catch any more squirrels place a soft plug in the hole to see if it remains if it is not disturbed then seal up opening permanantly. If you are unable to do it yourself have neighbor or familey member to help if that does not work hire a profesional.

I wouldn't worry a squirrel in your attic giving diseases to your child. Obviously make sure the squirrel is nowhere near your child anyway to avoid bites (which would be extremely unlikely to happen because squirrels generally don't attack unprovoked, and a newborn can't really provoke a squirrel). If it's confined to the attic I'd say it presents no real risk to you or your baby. Squirrels aren't particularly disease-ridden anyway.

First you will need to find where they are getting in your house and seal it off. Then you need to get a have a heart trap and put some nuts in it. They will go in and the door will close behind them. This will be hard because you will only catch one at a time, so if you can rent a few that will be helpful. Once you catch a squirl you will need to make sure that you drive atleast 3 miles away from your home before releasing them. If they are any closer than that, they remember where their nests are and will return. I had this problem and I let all of mine go at a nice golf coarse. This causes no harm to the squirl, however when you put them in your car to cart them off they scream at you something awful. They will also "play dead" sometimes. When you get to where you are going to let them go, if they are playing dead, just dump them on the ground (gently) and they will get up and run away. Its a bit of a pain in the butt, but this is the most humane way to do it. Make sure that you wash your hands and dont get bit by them and everything should be fine!! Good luck!!!

there are exterminators who do this for a living you have to seal all the possible entry points and install a one way door so they can get out but not back in. may take a week or so to get them out for good. once your comfortable there gone remove door and seal.
