If you have a woods near you then under logs or fallen trees is good. You can find woodlice, millipedes, centipedes, ants, worms, beetles and all sorts.

Then there are pond bugs like water boatmen etc.

Flies, gnats, wasps, bees can be found anywhere. Perhaps fields.

You could try some inventive ways to attract bugs using bait perhaps.

Good luck :-)

If you are collecting insects, then you will find different types in different habitats. Increase your odds of finding different species by:

1. looking under pieces of wood, under bricks, under stones
2. digging into compost or piles of dead leaves
3. placing a large, light-colored cloth under a bush or a tree branch and shaking the bush
4. sweeping a home-made insect net through tall grasses or other plants
5. searching along the sides of ponds or streams
6. looking on the bottoms of rocks in the water of ponds or streams or scooping up a bucket of gravel from the water -- find insect larvae there
7. looking on the floor next to the wall in basements, garages, sheds
8. leaving a piece of apple or other fruit in a small cup overnight - sink the cup into the ground of a garden area and lay a little tented piece of cardboard over the top to keep out rain
9. put a small light outside behind a white sheet or under a light-colored umbrella so you can find any insects that are attracted to the light.
10. Gather a good handful of leafy debris and put it on a screen over a white sheet. As the leafy stuff dries out, tiny insects from the leaves will go downward trying to stay in a moist area. They'll drop through the screen onto the sheet.
11. Put a clump of moss into a shallow bowl of water to see what comes out. Do the same with other things that insects might be hiding inside.
12. Open old hollow stems of last years flowers. Some insects overwinter in such places.

That's all I've got right now. Makes me want to go out and find some bugs myself!
