I have That problem so often that I have given IT a Name !!!
I call IT- - The Short Attention Span Theater. Usually happens when I am doing to many things all at the same time.

In the past half hour I have murdered a mouse (to put it out of its misery) as well as managed to lose my keys in the fray.
You might say that "What the hell am I doing?!!" and "How does this fit into my job description?!!!" are similar questions, both at the top of my *mental* list at this moment.
Now... What *was* I doing...? Oh, yeah... ranting...
