It is real, and we are to blame. Here's why:

CO2 is 30% higher than it has been for 650,000 years. Methane is 130% greater. These are two of the main pollutants humans put into the atmosphere in excess, and they are two of the primary greenhouse gases.

Look at the 'hockeystick', which shows a dramatic warming since 1950 after a fairly stable climate for 1000 years. In fact, the 10 hottest years in recorded history have all happened since 1990, with 2005 being the hottest.
(see links below)

How's that for proof of man's fault in this? There is ample proof, any real scientist will tell you that.

There has NEVER been an article doubting man's influence on global warming published in a peer-reviewed journal. A recent study of almost 1000 proved that.

Yes, the earth naturally heats and cools, but the rate and amount we are warming now is unprecedented in the recent geologic past. We are doing this, and we must stop it. This is not some political statement or rhetoric. This is science trying to educate a crass, ignorant public of the damage they are doing. The magnitude of temperature increase ALREADY is about 10x that of the 'little ice age' of the middle ages, and rate and amount are only going up.

Just to be clear, glacial and interglacial cycles are mainly controlled by astronomical fluctuations, but we have a detailed record of the last 7 cycles, and what the climate and CO2 is doing now is way different and extreme. The rate of increase is much higher than in the past AND the value itself is much higher.

Global warming is absolutely true. The evidence is overwhelming. Do a web search on today's (3/5/07) Washington Post. It has a front page article entitled Climate Panel Confident Warming is Underway. The final report of the IPCC will be released tomorrow in Brussels. This report has concluded and provides with high confidence (which means 90% certainty) on a number of responses "including threshold changes in ecosystems in the living world all over the globe". It is very worthwhile reading.

Now the real doubts, the real questions remain as to what the causes for this warming are. Is it due entirely to fossil fuel burning and land use practices? Or is it due to variations in solar insolation? Or is it due to other unknown causes or combinations of causes? But whatever the cause, the outcome is clear - we are warming and it is imperitive that we find out why, how much, how long, and future consequences as well as those we are currently observing with a 90% confidence level.

The planet is currently warming but the doomsday prophecies of a certain ex-politician are laughed at by the scientific community (well, they are laughing in secret while they count their money). The name of the game is data misrepresentation. Climate models that "predict" 20 ft of ocean rise are filled with unproven positive feedback algorithms. The "Hockey Stick" will generate the same shape curve even if RANDOM TEMPERATURE DATA is input. The disappearing "snows of Kilamanjaro" are due to poor land management, not warming (deforestation at the base of the mountain has reduced moisture in the climate and allowed winds to sweep right over the mountain without depositing any snow). There are so many points to talk about that this Yahoo! Answers Q&A format cannot do them justice. But I will point out one more instance of data misrepresentation, among many:

The claim that the hottest ten years on record have all happened since the 1990's, and 2005 was the hottest year on record, is patently false. First of all, using satellite data and not global mean surface temperatures we can see that the atmospheric temp has been steady since about 2002. The reason that surface measurements show an increase in temp is that back in 1990, when the USSR fell, many Siberian temperature stations were closed due to lack of funding. Now, what do you think will happen to the average temp when you remove over 1,000 of the thermometers that are measuring the coldest place on Earth? Hmmmm.....I'm going to go out on a limb and say they would go up. So going from 12,000 stations in 1950 down to about 5,500 today, we are obviously not measuring the same thing!

Now, I'm intelligent enough to know that this doesn't refute their claim, but these are their bread and butter! Their strongest arguments can be dismantled with only the slightest fact-checking. If they are trying to pass cap-and-trade schemes that put a dent right in the forehead of the economy, they had better show me some more shocking evidence than that.

It is true but it is NOT man made. The earth heats up and cools down every thousand years or so. I can remember in school back in the 60's we studied how the so called ice age will return once the so called warming age is done. So the question is, are you happy that you live now with warmth or would you like shoveling ice cubes for a living.

Global warming is a reality we will have to deal with. It might be due to normal natural events but it could also be that humans are accelerating the natural process by creating excessive amounts of pollutants.

It's not that it isn't true, the question is how much humanity has contributed to it. It has happened in the past before humanity was involved, and it is happening on Mars right now, where temps have risen 1F between 1970 and 1990
Who will be blamed for that! ;-) Our satellites and landers?
Humanity feels so self important, thinking that we are causing everything. We are like bacteria on the petri dish.

Global warming is cyclical, man might be contributing to it, but the Kyoto accord is NOT the way to slow or reverse this "natural" event.

Yes. It is completely false. The reason is that science has not determined with 100% certainty that it is due to human behavior.

This is a typical Bush type response. Notice that Bush can claim that it is completely false and yet presuppose its existence in giving his reasons.

Does this help?

no one can. Global warming is happening, it is proven. The dissucion now is wether humans are causing it

Nobody can. Only a liar, like G.W. Bush.
