I oppose the death penalty because it is not an effective way to prevent or to reduce crime. I wish that you had asked (as a recent Gallup Poll did) whether people prefer the death penalty or life without parole as the most serious penalty. Here are some facts about the death penalty system, all verifiable and sourced -

The death penalty costs much more than life in prison. (Niffer is mistaken about this.)

The death penalty risks executing innocent people (123 already exonerated) and DNA is available in less than 10% of all homicides.

The death penalty is not a deterrent. Most killers do not even think they will be caught (if they think at all).

Life without parole is now on the books in 48 states. It means what it says. Supermax prisons are terrible places to spend the rest of your life.

The death penalty can be very hard on families of murder victims.

The death penalty does not apply to the worst of the worst. It applies to defendants with the worst lawyers.

48% of Americans prefer life without parole and 47% prefer the death penalty (Gallup Poll, 2006.) We are learning.

That is a difficult question for me. Being a christian, it is difficult for me to imagine how anyone could take someone's life, but the reality is that it does happen. Yet the Bible says "an eye for an eye". But the Bible also says "vengeance is mine saith the Lord". And I know of cases of convicted men on death row that were later proved innocent. We have to wonder how many have already been put to death that were in fact innocent. I believe that there are some crimes that warrant the death penalty such as mass murder, murder with intention, some rape cases where the victim was tortured, and the killing of children. The individuals guilty, beyond a doubt, of these kinds of crimes certainly deserve to be put to death. I just wouldn't want to be part of it. That may seem irresponsible to some, but I couldn't take part in deliberately taking another life.

sure that's Biblical. The demise penalty replaced into widespread as a human judicial regulation by the God Yahweh Himself and is definitely one of His Mosaic regulations which lots of those regulations have been judicial regulations for a rustic to run that's government by. that's objective replaced into to the two eliminate the regulation breaking guy or woman from society and scare something of the individuals into controlling their movements in any different case an identical could take place to them. Yahweh Himself is being quoted interior the Bible talking and coaching this demise penalty regulation to Moses after the Israelites exodus from being slaves of Egypt. The demise penalty replaced into and nevertheless is considered a justified killing of a convicted criminal and not an act of homicide interior the eyes of our God.

Yes I do, if there is any chance what so ever, that a hardened hard core criminal, would get out and again molest and murder people, and especially little babies and children, chop them up and throw them away like filthy trash. You bet I believe in it. They don't deserve to live.
If I knew they couldn't get out on the streets again, I would like to see them kept with the worst of the worst, and they could treat each other as they treated innocent victims outside.
I am for the death penalty for Drug Lords, Mafia Gang Leaders and any of those so called high crime people responsible for making our children unsafe in or out of school. I want to be able to walk once again, in my once very safe neighborhood. I could go on. I have an appointment~~Jill

Yes, I do. Only the most severe and heinous crimes. I hate the idea of killing a person, but I know that there are some crimes that are so horrible that the only solution is to permanently remove that person from the planet. A person who is completely without remorse or hope of rehabilitation.

I don't and only because those who have done something so bad as to be given the dealth penalty should not get off so lightly. They should be made to spend the rest of their lives behind bars thinking about what they did.

Yes I do. Someone who abuses/kills a child, elder, veteran or handicapped person. Why spend my tax dollars on feeding them, clothing them and provide them with free cable TV when an IV and Potassium Chloride are really cheap.

To some degree. I think people should be penalized...for example for child molestation, or murder. However, who are we to judge and determine one's fate. I believe that God will be the ultimate judge in the end, and he will punish those individuals accordingly.

For a while I did, until someone killed my sister. Then I thought about how their family would feel if their child died. I didn't want anyone to feel the way I did after losing someone close to me, but I didn't say they shouldn't burn in hell.
