Hi - I don't know what you enjoy reading, but I can recommend a few:

* Anything by Ursula Hegi - she's wonderful! You might start with Stones from the River

* If you like classics and haven't read East of Eden - that's a very good book

* the Malcolm X Autobiography - just finished it - absolutely fascinating guy

* Astrid and Veronica

* Out - This book is pretty sinister so only read it if you like dark reads - but trust me, you can't put it down!

* If you like extremely cheesy romance - the Key trilogy by Norah Roberts (I think) is fun, quick and romantic.

Good Luck and happy reading!

Don't know what you really like to read. I just finished a book called Family Ties by Barbara Delinski. About a high society white couple from the Hamptons that had a baby that was black. It was a nice book, no smut and I finished it in 2 nights.

Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen was great. It was about a man that is dying, and looks back on his life. He remebers how he ran away from his past, and joined the circus. It sounds really cheesy - but it isn't. I write a blog for the local paper, and I did a review on it if you would like to read the whole thing....There are lots of other book reviews there if you feel like reading them....

The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbra Kingsolver. Get past the first chapter, and its a wonderful page turner, full of introspection. Its about a missionary family in the Congo on the eve of the revolution there.

"The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien. It was the first book that I actually finished in college because I could not put it down.

It's a fictional autobiography about Vietnam War. It's not a "war story" per se, but more of experiences of a young boy thrown into war. I highly reccommend it.

Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts.

It's big and fiction, sort of. So much is based on the author's life it is hard to tell where the line is between fact and fiction. A real page turner.

Lithium for Medea by Kate Braverman (tho it may be difficult to find because libraries and bookstores don't tend to carry Kate Braverman's things)

Drown by Junot Diaz, both Diaz and Braverman are post-modernist authors so if you are going to enjoy them you have to be open to something very different

(I agree with Sarah, I have read The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien... it's really good)

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden is breathtaking. (And 50 times better than the movie, if you've seen it)

It's a favorite of just about everyone I know who's read it, including people who dislike reading, and I couldn't put it down once I started.
