What i think is funny is that the liberals say Bush is stupid, while most of them are way far stupider than he is. That just goes to show they have about the same intelligence as an earthworm.

It is time for this Congress to take BushCo and the Puppet to the wood shed and insist on accountability!
This is no different than what he did with Bolton and his appointment to the UN.
It is not like this is an emergency and an emergency appointment is not needed. This was just an end around bypassing of the Congress because Bush knew that Fox was and is unacceptable to the Congress because if his funding of the Swift Boat Ads put on during the last presidential campaign.
This Administration seems to think it is above all of the Congress and should be exempt from any kind of Congressional Over-Sight. I for one think it is time that the Congress show BushCo and the Puppet that they have to abide by the rules and do things in an orderly fashion, operate above board, through the proper channels, even if the Congress needs to force a shutdown of this country if BushCo and the Puppet refuse to negotiate with the Congress on the budget appropriation bill funding BushCo's War For OIL

He is sneaky like any corrupt politicion would be expected to do. He still will have to get Congressional approval. Congress is not amused by this Administrations attempts to become dictatorial. They keep doing it and they keep getting caught. I guess they'll never learn to play by the rules. Better for the Democrats that they don't because it can be used against Republicans for a Democratic landslide like the one in 1964 when Lyndon Johnson defeated Barry Goldwater and ushered more Democrats into seats in both chambers in Congress.

How is a recess appointment "out smarting" anyone?
It's like saying pardoning Scooter (when he does) will be some sort of genius maneuver.
He has the power to do it, and since he is a lame duck with a 28% approval as it is, he figured why not. It was a totally predictable move on Bush's part.
BTW, Fox is a partisan scumbag who attacks and slanders war heroes. Great choice for an ambassador. Congratulations, I suppose he can't make the Belgians despise the U.S.any more than they already do.

Yes, it does suck, and I'm glad you brought it up. This is once again a demonstration by the administration to usurp the laws of Congress.
It is an outright lie on their part. After realizing Fox was not going to be confirmed partly because Fox contributed some $50,000 to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, a political attack group against John Kerry's war record, the White House withdrew his nomination last week only to appoint him behind Congress' back this week.
This is not the ONLY reason he was going to be denied the ambassadorship. He was also as unqualified as "Brownie" was to be the director of FEMA.
It is disgusting, and a tactic of this totalitarian-thinking administration.

Out "Foxed" indeed. Bush isn't stupid, he's wiley - like a Fox. When he feels cornered he maneuvers his way out. Point fingers, turn the blame on someone else. He's "street smart" and just proven, once again, that he can get what he wants, even if it's only for his own selfish reasons. So there! He showed us - the American people!
By the way, Bush just thinks of Belgium as "one of those chocolate making countries." It doesn't matter to him whom he appoints just as long as they bring back some of that great chocolate!

So if you call bypassing congress a good thing, just how do you define a democracy? And who cares who is ambassador to Belgium? And why is a Republican fundraiser uniquely qualified for that position, so much so that it is worth circumventing usual procedure? Lastly, recess appointments are not "outsmarting" anyone; we all know about them. Believe me, if you are reduced to bragging about this particular item, your president must really be letting you down.

It would be, if we were. But we're not. Ambassador to Belgium? Can you name one other person who held that position?
I can: John Eisenhower, Ike's son, also a former General and one of the world's greatest military historians. Since his father was NATO commander, in Brussels, and he served at his father's side, he was qualified to be Ambassador to Belgium. Unlike Fox. So Nixon -- whose daughter Julie married John's son David -- appointed him to a post for which his was qualified.
Imagine that: A Republican President appointing someone to an office based on qualifications as much as on relationships and friendships. Maybe the current holder of the office should look into it.

I like the way you're gloating, but if in the end these recess appointments are bad for America, all Americans will be the worse for it. After all, we are all Americans, no matter where we fall on the political spectrum, and we should put our country above our party. Very few people do this nowadays, including President Bush, and I find that very sad.
All other presidents before Bush--Democrats and Republicans alike--were willing to use the processes the way they were designed to be used. I'm not sure that supporting a president who tries to subvert our constitutional procedures is something to be proud of.

Not being from Belgium I doubt if it will matter. You should ask the YA user justgoodfolk he lives there.
I find it interesting that Bush staffs a bevy of Lawyers to find ways to get around policy and procedure rather than work within the Constitutional design.
