The USA has never had either a black or female president (or a black AND female president). Would it be a bigger step for them to appoint a black male or a white female. It would seem to me that the US people would be more accepting of a balck male than a white female. There are many a black male actor who has portrayed the president but I can't think of any female fictional presidents on screen. You know what they say about life imitating art....

Just to clarify, I don't think it is racist or sexist to ask the question. It would be a landmark either way because it would be a move away from the biggoted white males that appear alienate the US from the rest of the world. Like it or not people vote with their prejudices and that is a fact of life. The more diverse the elected officals then the looser the grip of the biggots over the US

It would be a huge step forward. But presidents are usually elected, only one was appointed in history. There have been vice presidents step up to president when something happens to the president but no Black man or white woman we have the chance this election to choose one. It is a huge step forward for them to even be considered. I didn't think I would see that and I am 61. .

9 times out of 10, if a black man or woman got elected to this government, they would be a puppet for white people and wouldn't do anything for the advancement of the black community anyway. Like a Condelleza Rice/ Clarence Thomas type. If a woman did get elected in this sexist country, she would probably be a take no bull, Hillary Clinton look a like.
(Anyone ever noticed how Hillary looks just look the mother in Manchurian Candidate)

You do understand that Hilary Clinton replaced into up for president no longer Sarah Palin? I mean why is she the only you point out in you question? Plus the alternative of who could be president replaced into made earlier usa even voted, because of the fact if the genuine human beings in capability had needed a girl president there could have been one, yet they needed a black one this time so there you flow.

I think the best step for the U.S.A. would be to elect the most qualified person for the job. The fact that we celebrate a woman or black person being elected to office is just more evidence of how backwards we still are as a country. How humiliating to be celebrated for achieving just because you are black and/or female. How about being celebrated for doing a good job in general?

There are more women than blacks, but a black President would be a bigger step, because it would force white Southerners who refuse to get it to get over themselves.
There have been a few female Presidents on TV and movies. In fact, Polly Bergen played on in "Kisses for My President," in 1964, and then played the mother of a female President, Geena Davis, in the recent TV series "Commander-in-Chief."

Neither, a president that actually follows the laws of the land and respects the Constitution would be the biggest step, regardless of their sex or race.

It is racist and sexist to even think about it that way. It should not matter what race, religion or sex someone is. We should only elect the best person for the job.

People voting based off of more than just gender, race, or party affiliation would be a big step for this country.

A President with some common sense, honesty, and integrity would be an even bigger step - but I don't think we're ready for that...
