I want to be a Mortician but I am yet to find a school that offers the services I need. I live in America on the east coast and would like to remain here if at all possible but am not completely opposed to moving to the other side of the country for college

Any advise?

Mortician skills are not routinely taught at any university. They are taught at mortician schools which are entirely separate. I'm pretty sure there is one in Boston and there must be many more around the country. Why not call up a few local funeral homes and ask the morticians where they were trained. I'm sure they would be willing to talk to you about it.

Someone else asked a similar question a while back (see reference below.) Here was the best answer:
"The two top-rated, "Harvard" of mortuary schools are the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and Cincinnatti College of Mortuary Science, mainly because they specialize soley in mortuary science. This is not an opinion, by the way, it is documented that these 2 are the best schools in the nation. However, www.mortuaryschools.com has a complete listing of every mortuary school in the United States. Hope this helps! " given by Reagan a licensed funeral director.

Suggest you contact a Mortician, or the State Mortician Licensing Board and inquire there.

They could probably supply you with lots of good info!

There are colleges in almost every state that offer mortuary science as a degree. Just look around on the different college web sites in your area. I'm in Ark/Oklahoma area and there are four colleges within three hours of me that offer that degree. So I'm sure they offer it on the east coast.

I'm pretty sure that there are special mortician schools, instead of it being a major at a regular university. Have you looked into that?

Have you tried calling a mortuary and asking for a referral to a school in the area. I'll bet they know everyone!
