They probably don't want to be a sate becuase they are sick of American military bases being there and the testing that is done, and the accidents as a result, are causing people to die. I have been there. I know that they don't want Americans there, they put up with Americans, but they don't like it. I love Puerto Rico, and I wish it didn't take so long to get there. But, it's their land, and Americans are the visitors or "aliens", if you please. Puerto Rico doesn't get into it with other countries. American military is there to protect America, they're all over the world protecting America. And for the Puerto Ricans, if the benefits of remaining a commonwealth outweigh the benefits of becoming a state, who can blame them? Viva Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico likes their status as a territory, they don't have to put up with the federal regulations and the taxes that goes with them, while being able to enjoy the priveledges of statehood. Companies like them that way too, they don't have to pay the import taxes and can get cheap labor there.

They had a vote a few years back asking for Puerto Rico to join with us as state in America, they voted and turned down the offer, because they stated they wanted what they had in their politics. They didn't want to live under our rules and have our President in charge of their country.

They should either become a state or be given their independence. They have actually had the opportunity 3 times to vote what they wanted to become, and each time they voted to maintain commenwealth status.

No it is not...They don't want to be a state, because they would have to pay taxes and follow the Federal laws...Right now they just grab all the free stuff from us.
