The belly button is a "scar" of sorts that is where the umbilical cord was attached when each person was in utero. When a woman becomes pregnant, the baby is fed through it's umbilical cord, but the cord is attached to the placenta in the uterus, not the woman's belly button. When the baby is born, the umbilical cord is cut and detached from the placenta and eventually leaves a "scar" on each person that we call a belly button. That is the last purpose it serves in our lives except to facilitate laparoscopic surgeries in the future.

She has it backwards. The umbilical cord goes from the mother into the baby's belly. When the umbilical cord is cut, there is a tiny bit of it left after the baby is born. After a week or so, the umbilical cord dries up and falls off, thus creating the belly button.

I had a friend who has 3 kids and thought the same thing. The baby's umbilical cord connects to the placenta. The mothers belly button was were her umbilical cord was and is NOT connected to anything. Hope this helps.

The baby gets fed through it's belly button via the umbilical cord, but the nutrients it receives actually come from what the mother eats.

The fetus is fed through the umbilical cord. The bellybutton is a scar from the removal of the umbilical cord. The baby is, in a way, fed through its bellybutton.

The nutrients from the mother go to the placenta which is connected to the baby's umbilical cord and the nutrients go directly to the baby's tummy from the uterus/placenta through the umbilical cord.
God bless!

Well before they are born they are fed through the umbelical cord. But it is not from the woman's belly button it is to the unborn child's belly button. here's proof...

That's funny, I used to think that's how they got the baby out, by untying your belly button!
