1) Because it's part of your freedom. Cars are dangerous, too, kill many people every year, in fact, but (this is not a good example, because it's so regulated!) you still have athe right to drive if you fulfill the requirements.

2) Because it sends a message to others that you, your family, your neighbors, your country, are not to be messed with.

3) Because the states with the most liberal gun laws (the most freedom) have the least violent crime.

4) Because it assumes / teaches responsibility and personal respect.

5) Because the "bad guys" will always be owning weapons.
Keeping "good guys" unarmed puts them at a disadgantage.
Why punish the law abiding citizens, make them helpless in front of the predators? The "good guys" should be doing "good things" and "fighting the bad guys," not fearing "Johnny Law."

6) Because women are at a natural disadvantage, being weaker than men. A man can subdue and commit crimes against a woman With No Weapon At All beyond his natural superior strength.

7) Because why should Your freedoms be restricted when "you haven't done anything"?

8) Because the founding fathers of our country were pretty smart, and the government they set up has worked spectacularly well so far.

Well, if guns were made illegal, then only criminals would have guns. I know it falls under protection, but criminals would be able to do much more with that sort of power. Plus, guns are great for hunting! They put food on the table.

Good point from someone above me- we are allowed guns for protection agianst a tyranical government. If the government gets too bad, we have the right to overthrow it!

I live in a rural area, and there is virtually no crime because everyone has a shotgun in the back of their truck, and knows how to use it! Hell, around here, muggers say 'please' before they take your purse.

How about the 2nd amendment of the Unites State of America's constituiton? Look that up and start from there.

An armed populace insured 3 things to the framers of the constituion....

1) Personal safety
2) Defense of the nation
3) A means to otherthrow a tyrannical government

Have you ever lived on a farm with limited funds and couldn't always go buy what you needed to eat at the store? I have and I hunted for my meals. Also, I own a business and the pressure and frustrations build up until you either have to release them on someone or in my case, I go to the shooting range and kill several pieces of paper. It's a great way to work off those problems.

The reasons for us to be able to bare arms are many. Here are a few......protect against foriegn invasion, hunting, protection against tyrannical domestic government, perfom citizen arrests. It is better to have a gun and not need it than need a gun and not have it...The war with England was largely fought and won by militias who formed from ordinary citizens like you and me.Don't let the libs teach you otherwise.God Bless

Hunting. But that only applies to rifles... nobody needs a handgun or an automatic weapon to hunt.
Protecting your family is a little iffy too... what's to stop somebody from buying a pistol and then going nextdoor and shooting their neighbor? Not that we shouldn't have some form of defense, but I don't believe that many people (out of 300 million) are in imminent danger of being shot in their own homes and would actually need to own a handgun.

It is a constitutional right, which is reason enough. It is also a step toward preventing the downslide into a police state (though the registration of these guns has crossed the line).

hunting, recreation and some guns are highly collectible.

this is america.

if we were to start deciding that things that are potentially dangerous were to be outlawed, then cars, trucks snowmobiles, waterskiis and boats could reviewed for possible bans.

we could decide that cigarettes, cigars and all alcohol is 'dangerous' and therefore should be banned.

we could further decide that kitchen cultery and backyard barbeques are potentially dangerous.

as it is, our government is far too parental and judgemental of what people do in the privacy of their lives.
