Take it off, clean it, sand it and put on some "JB WELD". That should do it. You can also go to NAPA and get a fuel tank repair kit.

Personally...I think I'd consider replacing the tank.......especially if the leak isn't from a specific mechanical puncture. If it's on a seam of a metal tank. or the tank is going porous, or plastic tank that's perhaps brittling up.......there could be more leaks to follow.

Tumbleweed has the right choices. JB Weld is excellent. I would only add this...
If you store the mower in a shed or other small structure away from your home, go for the repair. If you keep it in a big garage, shed or next to your home, don't screw around and get the new one.
(I'm thinking about the ramifications if it were to leak.)

If you repair it, could you sleep well wondering if the patch is going to hold. I mean, how much can a little gas tank like that cost ? I say get a new one and be done with it.

i would not try to fix it - i would replace it. should not take chances with flammable things like that
