yep. its generally the whole wheel bearring. you might want to get both replaced, cause if one is bad, the other isnt too far behind.
good luck

The light should come on when you first turn the key on and if the abs is ok it should go out after a few seconds. You need to realize that just because the abs light is on does not mean your car will have brake failure it will still have normal braking ability but the abs function may or may not work. In some tests it was found that stopping ability was improved with non abs systems while in others mainly icy roads the abs gave you a little bit of advantage. That light has been on in my car for years. I sometime think these lights are there to keep you worried and keep the mechanics busy

I had the same problem in my Grand Am, the ABS and Traction control light would come on when I started the car and would not go off, there was no real problem with the brake system, turns out I needed a new front hub and connection. Basically, it was all connected and the problem was caused by wear and tear (it's a 99 with 163,000 miles yikes!) and also hitting a pothole. We have HUGE ones in St. Louis! It cost with parts and labor about $500, but that was with my employee discount, I am not sure how much it would cost for a regular customer. It is a job they can do in one day though.

I'm surprised the top guy is missing this one fact about your problem. I had the same thing happen to me with my 99 GMC Sonoma. My ABS light came on but my brakes seemed fine. I took it to a mechanic and even said the brakes were fine and sensor might be dirty,
What was missed, is that is the front wheel bearing starts to fail, just the slight tilt in the wheel from a failing bearing can make the ABS sensor light up. What happens from here is the longer you drive with it on, more gunk piles up in the sensor boot and the bearing becomes more and more loose. When you start to hear a *pop pop pop*, grinding, or even clicking, the front wheel bearing is on borrowed time.
What happens when it fails. Well in the driveway or going down your neighborhood street, embarrassment as the wheel falls off and you skid on your axle to a grinding halt. Worse case, you're on the highway going 75mph and it fails making you skid, spin, and maybe flip.
For my GMC, the bearing with a new sensor was $155 at Autozone. Fortunately, I am friends with mechanics who trade labor for labor since I work on their boats. If you had to pay a mechanic, you are looking at a $350 to $600 repair at a shop depending who you go to unless you have friends to help.
For a 2005 Aztek (with anti-lock), you are looking at a Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly-Front at Autozone by a company called Timken and the part cost $151.99 plus state tax (if applicable)
I would highly suggest if this is the problem to buy it from Autozone, mechanics generally charge you double their cost for a part to make a profit. This generally means the part will be about 50% more than what you'd pay at a parts store since they often get parts at a discount price.

GM, unfortunately has had a history of problems with these particular wheel bearings, and, when the sensor does fail, usually the entire bearing has to be replaced, unless fault can be found in the wiring harness into the bearing. Can be incredibly costly. The only way that your wheel will "fall off" is if the bearing itself has gone bad, and you ignore it for a long time. If the bearing is bad, it usually sounds like a rumble coming from the wheels, getting louder as you accelerate, and will change pitch as you turn left or right. You definitely need to have it looked at, but it isn't a panic situation.

the ABS gentle is available in to show a malfunction interior the ABS gadget. The ABS gadget is composed of a motor/pump, a working laptop or pc, and sensors at 2 or all the wheels. frequently between the sensors will fail and reason the gentle to come again on. The motor vehicle will quit generally, however the ABS gadget won't function in case you could desire to make an emergency quit. you could have it regarded at ASAP. customary code readers won't examine ABS brake codes. I code reader specific to ABS structures is needed.

There is a problem with the ABS, it may be a bad wheel sensor or something else. The light may mean that the ABS is disabled and will not work. You should get this fixed, it is a safety matter. Cost will depend on what is wrong.

i own a repair shop, and whats causing this to come on like that is one of the sensors may be going bad on it and they will also do this if they draw moisture on the sensor,it interrupts the signal they send out,but its not a safety issue right now with it,and it don't mean the brakes will fail or anything, but i would have them scan it and replace the sensor as soon as i could get it done, good luck i hope this helps.

I'm not sure but it could possibly be your alternator dying. When your alternator is about to go bad all of your sensors are gonna get really messed up and act weird. If your battery light goes on, then you have a problem, because then your alternator could die within a matter of minutes.
