A "Really" good graphics card can cost more than a computer (2550.00) Most store bought computers come with a "reasonable" card which has some memory and will show you good color for most applications. IF you are in to CAD or Premier, or hard core HD games, you need a more expensive card. If you do transfers, you will need a card which has the right inputs and outputs, like component. Some cards will have 2 out puts (RGB+DVI) or (DVI+DVI) and so you can have two monitors and span your windows screen across the two screens. Etc....

Almost never. Most ready to go systems have some kind of an updater tool - it will fetch the drivers for you or you check the manufacturer website yourself

Just make sure you get the correct one for your card if you are downloading it yourself

no they are not always the latest drivers,,, it is always best to go to the manufactures website and check for the latest drivers there may be bugs in some drivers that have been found by users

always check for new drivers and patches

It depends on what computer you buy. Some companies specialize in puting absolutely the biggest and best in their systems. Checkout www.alienware.com, Falcon northwest, www.commodoregameing.com. The commodore's aren't available yet, but they will be soon, and they look really cool especially if you grew up with an old C64 like I did.
