My son starting teething at 4 mths old. But his teeth didn't break through till he was 13 mths old. He has tough gums so his teeth had a heck of a time breaking through. When they finally did come through he got his top 3 in the front first then the bottom came in.
It is possible he is teething. Every child is different so there is no set thing saying the bottoms will come in first. Just give him a cool teething ring.
My mom says you can put a little vaseline on his chin to help keep the drool off his chin. It will create a barer so the rash wont' get worse.
Good Luck

The average age for babies to get their first teeth is anywhere from 4 to 12 months, but of course there are some later and sooner. Teething can start way before you see an actual tooth so I'd say there's a definite possibility that your baby is teething. I would recommend Hyland's teething tablets...they are all natural little tablets that you can dissolve in a bottle or under the tongue. They really do work! Another suggestion that my son loved was to take a damp washcloth wrapped around your finger and massage the gums. This will make them feel better and also break down the gum tissue to make it easier for the teeth to come through.

My son started drooling like crazy around then, too, but his first tooth didn't come in til a couple months later. As others have said, it varies significantly between children. Some don't get teeth until after they are 1, and some have even been born with teeth. As for where they come in, it is typical for them to come in on the bottom first, but definitely possible for them to come in elsewhere, too. My son got his first 2 teeth on the bottom, but instead of the top middle 2 coming in next, as is usual, the outer incisor came in instead. Also, many babies go through phases of teething. Meaning they will teethe for awhile and stop, and then start teething again. This can happen many times, but usually only before their first tooth comes in (or at least this is what my family has told me). If you'd like more information about this I'd check out http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/11243.html . They seem to have a lot of reliable information from doctors, and such.

Well, it could be any time between 3 months to a year! Heavy salivation could be a sign, but it is not a reliable indicator. You're right, the bottom ones come out first. My baby still was toothless at 1, so there's really is no "average"! They can be salivating for months on end before they cut the 1st tooth.
Buy some teething gel, or a teether for him to chew on. Put it in the fridge first so that the gums are soothed.
Good luck!

It's not impossible. The earliest I've heard of a baby getting teeth is about 3 months but it is far more common for baby to get them around 6 months. Most people in the medical field will deny any sort of correlation between fever and teething but most moms I've spoke to insist that there is a link, (including myself). My son was a big drooler and remained that way until about a year and a half...he had to wear a bib constantly to keep himself dry. His teeth came in late and, yes, you're right, there is usually an order, but he got many of his bottom teeth (including molars) before his front teeth came in. Weird eh?
When your baby is 3 months old, you can start giving him baby tylonol or try some of those gum numbing cream as a last resort. Also good are frozen face cloths and chew toys.

My daughter started drooling at 3 months, but her first teeth appeared at 6 months. The teething process begins months before the first teeth appear.
