I think there's a good chance we'll live to see it happen, but the people of the Republic may be less enthusiastic about taking on Northern Ireland than you expect. There will still be major security and order problems, and it relies heavily on subsidies from Britain - Paisley and Adams both reject the sort of free market reforms which have worked well in the south - so they'll be taking on a lot of problems. Increasing cross-border co-operation will pave the way, but you'll need more than a bare Catholic majority in the north to win another border poll. Not all Catholics in the north are keen on redrawing the border anymore. People in Britain won't be sorry to see NI go, but I just hope it's not messy.

I would like to think so i know that the people from the north on Ireland would be better off financially because we have a lot more benefits then they do in the north the pensions in the south get free travel, a medical card, from October to April they get a weekly allowance for there heating and lots of other benefits, why is it always about politics and not about the older people the ones that went hungry and through hard times don't they deserve some thing know??

Yes, in fact it will happen very soon. Indeed, negotiations are on-going at this time. The Catholics and the Protestants have pledged to "bury the hatchet" once and for all. Now it's the politicians turn, and they have wanted to see this for a long time. I expect to see a united Ireland before the end of the year.

Ireland has no chance to survive as independant State.Economically and military points it is not feasible. If it splits it will be a poor country like Bangladesh or Somalia.

it may happen one day.not soon ,and not through violence.only the settled will of the people will recreate unification. the dinasores that run the north have to die sometime and with a bit of creative breeding, who knows.all the best anyway
