I have read the translation on this site: http://www.montrealmuslimnews.net/rumor.htm
According to this translation, Ahmadinejad didn't say that Israel should be wiped off the map. He said the regime in Jerusalem should vanish from the page of time.
This sounds exactly the same to me. The regime in Jerusalem IS Israel. And what is the difference between being wiped off the map and vanishing from the page of time? They are both metaphors for the idea that Israel should be overthrown.
I know very well that the people of Iran are not necessarily in agreement with their leadership.

I'm an Iranian and I should inform you that there is great diversity between the people of our nation! Just because someone said something (which he didn't, 'cause I saw the speech and I know Farsi), doesn't mean everyone should have to be blamed for it and should suffer the consequences as a result!
I feel so totally sad when I see people talking about a new war like it's not a big deal. 'Nuke'em' they say, while they don't know anything about the people living here. They just watch whatever bulls*it their T.V stations broadcast and they judge people based on that. That is so unfair!

Well, I think that they must be preparing for some war of some sort or else why would they disagree to stopping their nuclear campaign? And besides, this recent kidnapping of British militiamen is just proving their hostility! And I say the Allies(brits, americans, etc.) should stop their campaign with force if they have to.

"The have put a lot of effort into making people believe that this country is ruled by dangerously crazy people who are trying to make a nuclear bomb to be used."

I think Iran IS ruled by crazy people who are trying to make a nuclear bomb to be used. It's propoganda if they say otherwise.

"In view of such a danger, the only answer is to wage a preventive war."

This is nothing more than a petty threat. "give us our way or you'll be sorry!"
