Being a Liberal means:
1. Never having to say you're sorry.
2. Always having someone else to blame.
3. Getting to shout "racism" if you don't like the words someone else is saying.
4. Judging others, but not allowing them to judge you.
5. Preaching at others and not allowing them to talk.
6. Owning your opinions and the opinions of others.
7. Believing you are superior because you are poor, unwashed and/or unchurched.
8. Repeating the same lie over and over until you claim it as truth.
9. Demanding sources of others and never providing any.
10. Criticizing the opposition for "shredding" the Constitution, while you applaud your own side for "diplomacy."
Why, indeed, once you are 11?

People enjoy being Liberals because it means they never have to really be mature and responsible. The term "Peter Pan syndrome" describes Liberals perfectly; they never grew up.
Being a Liberal means you get to engage in all sorts of "feel good" causes, whether or not they actually create any lasting benefit. For example, the Liberals were revelling in the 1970's over their victory against nuclear energy. Now, even the former head of Greenpeace says he and his cadre were absolutely stupid to oppose nuclear energy. If the U.S. had pursued it the way France did, we would be energy sufficient right now! Instead, we have to continue relying on coal and oil.
Now Libs are on the Global Warming bandwagon, even though Soviet scientists are predicting a global COOLING by 2012, and NASA is convinced that earth has gotten slightly warmer for the same as the increase in planetary temperature on Mars and other planets recently; it's just due to increased solar radiation. The sun is radiating more energy, that's all.
The Libs are willing to disrupt the economies of every nation on earth because Global Warming is a prime example of their "feel good" mentality. They think they are all Dudley Dorights, racing to save us all. It doesn't matter the harm they cause, whether it was an ill-advised crusade to destroy our nuclear energy future, or hurt our economy with pointless global warming countermeasures.... remember the global cooling predicted by 2012.

During the civil rights movement was when I would've liked to have been a liberal. It stood for something. Martin Luther King, women's suffrage, things like that.
These days, the movement has embraced a paradox. They want the United States not to employ or take advantage of its position as a world power, while at the same time holding the United States accountable for nearly every ill that befalls the world.
Worse still, the movement has failed its basic ties to fighting for civil liberties in endorsing abortion on demand. They don't fight against but rather promote the forcible denial of human rights to unborn children. You would think that a movement inspired by men the likes of Martin Luther King would be able to see the truth behind the convenience.
So to answer your question, I wouldn't like to be a liberal in today's society, but I would've been one during the civil rights movement.

What do you think being a Liberal means? If you compare the US political parties to parties in Europe, the difference between Liberal and Conservative is very small - politically. Both favor big government, they just want to spend our money on different things.

People are liberal to avoid the actual problems of their life and the world.
They throw money at every situation when money doesn't solve anything. Problems are solved by action, not funds.
They try to solve everything by talking, but they fail to realize that there are people who do not listen to words.
They want to escape morality, becuase if there is no moral confliction with an issue, there is no reason to feel bad when you do it.
They wish to escape their and the world's problems, but in turn actually create more.

I think it is an honest question and yes it could be asked of conservatives as well, and probably should be.
But, as expected, not a single answer containing substance so far.
Taking Bush out of the equation, and considering only issues that describe liberalism (not opposition to conservatives), can anyone answer the question honestly?
Maybe 1 in 10 might give it a try and even have something of substance to say.
The rest of you are just monkeys in the zoo screeching at everyone that walks by.
Yep, that goes for conservatives as well as liberals that waste peoples time with stupid responses that don't answer the dang question.

Because all republicans think that if someone doesnt do, or think as they say are either Liberal or Terrorists. This republican administartion has terrorized more people than any other group of people in the world. So I guess that makes everyone else a liberal in a republican view. I bet you hate everyone except republicans also or you wouldnt be asking such a stupid question.

Liberal is very close to Socialist these days - and this isn't meant to be a negative comment. So, what is the socialist agenda? Large central government that takes care of all people's needs (food, housing, medical, etc). It could be argued that liberals are very compassionate about the "everyday man", and that drives them towards liberal beliefs.

Me being an Independent can't see being a member of the ultra-right or the ultra-left. I really believe that being in the middle is where the majority of America is located.

Mother Teresa, Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, and the Dalai Lama encouraged social change through embracing compassion and peace; they were liberal.
Hitler, George Bush, and Tony Blair encouraged social change through spreading fear and using war; they were not liberal.
Each of us makes choices. Why don't you choose peaceful, non-divisive messages?
