Daniels has been living alone in a four-bed cell in Ward 41, a section of the hospital reserved for sick criminals. He said sheriff's deputies will not let him take a shower - he cleans himself with wet wipes - and have taken away his television, radio, personal phone and computer. His only visitors are masked medical staff members who come in to give him his medication. He said that he lost 50 pounds and was constantly coughing and that authorities locked him up after they discovered he had walked into a convenience store without a mask.

Should he be allowed to have a mirror, window, phone, or t.v. for not wearing a mask and possibly starting an epidemic as this strain of TB is antibiotic-resistant? What do you think?

Daniels contracted the virtually untreatable, fatal, drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis, XDR-TB (52 out of 53 people know to have it that have been treated have died) while living in Russia for the past 15 years where he contracted the disease and diagnosed, then came to the U.S. last year to get "better treatment".

He was told he would have to wear a mask at all times in public, chose not to and was seen hacking away a convenience store, arrested and locked in quarantine ever since.

I, for one, would be all for him being deported back to Russia so the American taxpaying public would not able to pay for the quarantine.

As sad as it is that this man is living like this, much of it is his own fault; he chose not to obey the doctors advice and put everyone else at risk in the process.

Multidrug resistant tuberculosis is a serious matter, and it developed because people who had TB did not follow the full course of antibiotics prescribed therefore breeding a "super-bug".

This "Daniels" risk the health of every person he came into contact with because he failed to take the simple measure of wearing a mask - lock him up and who cares about his rights - he didn't care about anyone elses right not to be exposed to TB!

just to verify rape is rape and not something makes it ok. ok now that that's pronounced. a girl would sense some sort of sexual exhilaration, however the act of being raped far over rides any hint of delight they sense. Plus the hint of delight they'd sense in basic terms provides to the soreness because of the fact now a girl has to tackle the actuality they had a sprint of delight. it could be a similar if a guy have been to be raped (which does take place) he will nevertheless get stressful if inspired and would nevertheless have an orgasm, or no count if it is a gay rape he will nevertheless sense slightly bit exhilaration. back this does not make the act ok, it certainly makes the act worse because of the fact it provides yet another element that should be dealt with. i desire this enables

While they may be able to quarantine thru health dept. if he was non-compliant in previous judgements, I don't get how they are getting away with this part:

"He said sheriff's deputies will not let him take a shower - he cleans himself with wet wipes - and have taken away his television, radio, personal phone and computer."...?

Those items could be disposed of the same way the rest will be after his death...

I think you are missinformed or lying. The "resistant" form of TB is treatable with different meds, but isolation is needed to keep him from coughing it onto someone else until it is no longer contagious. He is not kept from showering as no tb germ can get through a septic tank. and , if he is loosing weight it is because he needed to, but some wt loss is expected with any illness. the expense of personal and extra dietary items is on him or his family, not the hospital. Whose fault is it that no one wants to visit him-- will you go? If he is in a foreign country, not u.s.a. , he is lucky to be still allowed to be alive. many third world countries just kill the incurable and the extreemely coutagious..

Yeah I think its fair, why should other people run the risk of getting sick beacuse he is to careless just to wear a mask to not spread his super bug? If he would of wore the mask he wouldnt be sitting where he's at then, everyone has the pay the consequences for their actions.

from npr website:
"Robert Daniels is being held in a detention ward at an Arizona hospital because he is infected with a deadly strain of tuberculosis. Daniels refused to comply with voluntary quarantine rules. "

His TB is resistant to almost all forms of treatment, which means a DEATH SENTENCE for anyone he infects.

The items you mentioned COULD carry the disease, if taken out of his cell.

This type of treatment is primitive. I was unaware that TB was a crime. I realize that the authorities are in a tight spot trying to deal with someone who is ressisting treatment. The solution however is not to treat the man like he is on death row.
