Just the way air, water and earth, elements in general nature do not leave voids, gaps or vacuums in their containment, human nature too detests disorder and chaos in its folds. The most frightening thing in life, in my view, therefore is a sense of emptiness, or nothingness in terms of essential meaningfulness of life. When we are empty, our purposes slacken, our ambitions become dull and our spirits go down to their lowest. Then we see no hope, and what is more we see no reason for hope. We feel as if life bear no value at all, and neither do all the things in life, both in and out of our possession. Then beware! For times may come when we see no value in living, when time like a cruel alien may passes through our very being mercilessly changing and shuffling us over and over again for the purposes of others; for we may be like a dry leaf rolling aimlessly, where and all things may seem to be leaving us behind down trodden and left to decay.
But fortunately life in its very nature is not like this; life is the other name of of fullness, fulness of purpose, of an ambition, a love or some special care; fulness of life enables us to live in its fold. If our heart is full to its brim with concerns of life that life will never leave us unhappy and forlorn, it will always galvanise us into its great harmonies.
Tragedies on the other hand, fill our life with pain and anguish, but and is it not true that darkest of the nights can have brightest of all dawns; and if a harsh winter has followed in footsteps of an autumn of discontent so soon then will the beautiful spring be too far off for a hopeful heart, and will that waiting season not make the mellowness of the season approaching more enjoyable still. Tragedies and sufferings if endured with purity of heart and mind bestow upon human soul an ability to see happiness as it come along; sometimes our indulgences in life make us blind, unable to hear or see when chances of true happiness come knocking at our door. Do not let them go! And sty loyal to yourself, standby your good hear when it is in pain, for it will then remember you in the moments of its delight.

There are lots of things that can cause unhappiness. The main ones are chemical imbalances and depression. Depression and unhappiness is the result of chemicals in the brain, which are sometimes stimulated by events, but not necessarily. Sometimes depression is biological or hereditary. The best thing that a depressed person can do is talk to a doctor about it.
That said, no one is "tragedy" free in their lives. Everything that happens to everyone around you has an affect on you. So even if no "tragedy" has happened to someone, someone they know is likely suffering from someone, and if not, then there is the rest of the world to consider. If the person is considerate and compassionate, then the woes of others are going to impact their life. Then it is a matter of whether or not they know how to cope with it, or if they are in need of medication or therapy to deal with depressive feelings.

constant unhappiness is more than a feeling its mental diease. Depression is very rampant in this country. (it is in other countires to but we like to push pills here) Depression can be learned, passed down its hereditary and can brought on by tragedies. I have suffered from it since i was 11. I had 2 sucicide attempts. 1 hosptial stay and out of all the treatment i have had over thelast 14 years. The one that has kept it most under control was my Sprituality. I am a Chrisitan but I also try to look at life in broader aspect. Once i decided to give my life purpose with the Lord and goals.. Things brightened up. I havent been on medication in years frankly becasue i belive it dont work. I also use to be a Cutter. I havent done that in over a Year and half. Turning to the Lord, finding purpose and realsing the negitivety in your life. Can make a world of difference.

I think that certainly some people are more prone to depression than others. But as to what makes a person unhappy when there are no real tragedies in their life, I'm not really sure. Maybe we should ask some celebrities that question. There seem to be plenty of them checking into rehab these days!

Inner (Dissatisfaction) they go through which makes them in a state of unhappiness and deep sorrow.
I was just referring to myself by the way...
I always feel unhappy when I've got mostly what a girl my age can ever get 'N as you just mentioned I don't have real "Tragedies" in my life. But I suppose such dissatisfaction comes from the lack of achieving what I want or what I dream of. I mean I want to reach my goals so much 'n become a professional Tennis Player and also a successful Business Woman, putting in mind that I so wanna travel abroad and live there forever. Till I reach that goal of mine, I won't be happy! No matter what!
I'm always surrounded with my friends and family, yet I feel I lack something which I WANT!
So basically that's what makes me feel unhappy about my life and myself most of the time.

insecurities perhaps??? I don't consider myself to have any real "tragedies" going on in my life, but I do find myself unhappy from time to time.
Loneliness is another example, having no one to confide in, leads people to keep their emotions bottled up, therefore eating away inside of them.
I think you are being unfair to say that some people are destined to be gloomy. From the way you have worded your question, you would think that people are not allowed to be unhappy unless they have some major tragedy in their life. If you were to reverse this, you would be as good as stating that people who DO have real "tragedies" in their life, are incapable of having any slight feeling of happiness.

I believe some are predisposed to look at their glass as half empty. However,Ifeel that with effort and commitment, you can change yourself. Maybe it won't be as dramatic change as you would like, but a little bit is a step in the right direction. Just build from there. Start with something simple as counting your blessings. For me, regular attendance at mass helps me alot. I can tell a difference if I miss a week.

Some of the unhappiest adults I know just seem unable to get over the fact that the real world doesn't treat them like they're special. People who spoiled as kids often grow up and think they'll still get the star treatment throughout their life, and they are bitterly disappointed when they realise they are just like everyone else....

How can we really be happy while others suffer, the cause of unhappiness lies in seeing others suffer, which is allways related to us.
We are all on the planet together so to be truly happy we need to try and help others, and use our resources and gifts or abilities to help our sisters and brothers in need.
There is enough resources to feed the world, we have enough genius to solve all our problems, we just need to learn how to utilise our individual abilities to help the persons in plight.

In my studies in psychology, it all really boils down to brain chemistry. If you don't have enough serotonin, endorphins and other chemicals in your brain, then you won't experience joy. People with heavy addictions to hard drugs like meth and heroin may permanently damage their brain's chemical receptors and be doomed to a relatively joyless existence. It doesn't really seem fair that ones lineage can determine ones happiness level, but who ever said life was fair.
