--Check for spark. Insert the spark plug in the spark plug cap. Lay the threads of the plug against the engine and try to start it (no spark - no run).
--While the spark plug is out, check the cylinder compression. Remove the spark plug (and "don't" put it in the spark plug cap). Put your finger over the spark plug hole and try to start it. If the compression is good, your finger should get blown off the hole (weak compression - no run). It will need piston & rings if weak.
--Make sure the carb is clean. Open it up, remove the jets and hold them up to the light. You should be able to see through them (clean them if you can't). With a spray can of carb cleaner, spray though every hole in the carb. If the spray comes out another hole, then that circuit is clear. If not, clean the carb.
--While the carb is off, check the reed valves. It might just be a flap of metal on your model. It should look completely closed making a good seal. If not, replace it.
--Check the air cleaner. Try to start it with the air cleaner removed. Clean or replace it, if it's dirty.

Depends what happened before it wasn't working. Was it not used a long time, did you have engine problems or any strange noises before you started the maintenance ?

If it was standing a long time, or ran out of fuel, the fuel filter at the bottom of the tank may be dirty, the easy way to fix that is to shake the bike up and down a few times so that dirt can lift of the filter.

As a serious coffee drinker....I have to say that if you replace it with a good tasting decaf I probably wouldn't even notice. The coffee buzz thing only happens to the ones who only drink coffee once in a blue moon.
