i have written to Congressman Elijiah Cummings and Senator Barbara Mikulski (sp?) and Sen. Sarbanes here in Maryland. I think it was about the assault weapons thing a few years ago. I recieved a prompt response that was a standard letter. There's no way to tell if they really take the time to hear every citizens communication, but I encourage everyone to contact their representatives when a bill is coming to the floor, we need to be heard to make this democracy work.

OH Yeah and emailed and a couple of times showed up in the office (once Washington the rest the local office) in person. You can't expect that just because a legislator gets a letter from you that one letter is going to change a vote. Depending on the staff and what plans the person has for his career or this issue you will get a variety of responses. I live in Nebraska and I get form letters from Terry and Nelson but I get packets of mail from Chuck Hegel. He wanted to keep me happy just in case he would run for President. Lee Terry has a pretty safe seat and Ben Nelson has little ambition.
Anyway. Write those letters. You have the right to let your public servents know what you want. Just voting every 2 or 6 years is not enough feedback for them.

convinced, I genuinely have written letters and emails to my congressional representatives each and every few years. The very last time became about a month in the past and that i merely were given a reaction decrease back. the reason being consistently a similar. someone or some company tells me there's a invoice that concerns them and they could like me to voice my opinion in a grassroots attempt to get the degree killed or exceeded. I usually write as requested, yet probable no longer how they could have worded it. from time to time the corporate is too intense for my perspectives or does no longer look to cover a substantial factor. for instance, at the same time as i became in college, I bear in mind seeing on a lady's jacket a button that study "Nuke infant gay whales for Jesus." it extremely is of route satire for political slogans hitting extremely some the substantial motives, yet enable's say that language became in a invoice earlier Congress and some company wrote to me and suggested to protest it because we ought to consistently keep away from using nukes. i'd protest it on or more advantageous of the different themes besides.

Yes, I have written both my state senators as well as my districts representative regarding a number of issues, namely:

1) The Fair Tax. I have challenged my senators to support this bill personally and to use all appropriate efforts to get their collegues to support it as well. Representative Linder is the author of the bill and is on the committee overseeing its presentation to the floor. I have written him encouraging him to continue his efforts to bring this bill to the floor.

2) Illegal aliens. I have written all my congressional representatives encouraging them to oppose any amnesty process until the borders are closed to new illegals coming in and in support of increasing funding to vastly increase our border guards as well as fences and other electronic detection devices. One sentator proposed just such a bill, not because of me alone, but I am sure from all the other voters writing and saying essentially the same thing.
3) I have written all my congressional representatives encouraging them to support the president's SS reforms.

There have been others as well.

Yes, I have on several occasions. I get the usual form letter back in about a month thanking me for being concerned and letting me know that they will take my concerns into account. It doesn't work. When senators and congressmen get to washing tone for more than one term, they could care less about us little people. They have turned themselves into the elite ruling class and I personally think we need to get a militia together and go clean house and throw EVERYBODY out and start over.

Yes. I wrote to Senator Arlen Specter to object to his illegal immigration amnesty bill. I explained my objections. He tried to support his position. We got nowhere.
Fortunately the bill got nowhere.
