What is the average water pressure, at a typical residence?

federal law requires a minimum of 40 to 60 psi in all municipal water systems ...it can be higher and you should have a pressure regulator installed in your home

Typically the water pressure at a residence is going to be between 40 and 60 PSI. It can be above or below that number, depending on where your at in the system, but that is their typical target. They may install a pressure reducing valve if your on the low side of the system and your pressure gets above 75 PSI without a reducing valve. I've installed systems that due to the hills had pressure to the reducing valve above 175 PSI. If they have problems on the system, they usually consider themselves safe if a pressure above 25 PSI is maintained on the system. Below that, they will usually issue a boil advisement.

Typical is 30 to 60 pounds. Less than 30 is unacceptable and over 80 is too high and requires a pressure reducing valve.
