Supply and demand.

The demand for manual labor has decreased with the mechanization of manufacturing (machine power instead of man/woman power)

The supply of manual labor is large, because the qualifications are minimal.

As opposed to mental labor which has much higher qualifications, and thus fewer people will qualify, keeping supply low.

With the shift to mechanized labor the importance of logistics and management the mental work grew in importance.

Hope this helps
Good luck!

Many people have the capacity to do manual labor. Not as many have the opportunity for higher education. Upon obtaining higher education, an individual has many certifications that he/she has obtained through that education, and can charge more for their services.

Manual labor, then, is cheap, because many skills that a laborer has, everyone has--but you're right--manual laborers are in fact, extremely important to our economy, and are often times not paid as well as they should be.

Manual labor can be well paid but to get to that point takes awhile. I will pay a man well if he has shown that he is willing to show up on time, show up every day, show up sober, and is willing to work hard and all day long, with a minimum amount of whining. Unfortanetly, I cannot ever seem to find an American who is willing to do that.

It is based on supply & demand; after industrial revolution, demand 4 manual labour has decreased. People doing mental labour, sometimes have to do manual work too. However, they always dominate those manual labourers & people doing mental work are mostly capitalists & they donot pay the physical labourers

In free economy prices are determined only by supply and demand relation. Your statement is not always true. Manual labor is cheap in India since it is available in plenty, but it costs dearly in US, since it is scarcely available there.

for the simple reason that manual labour is more in supply than mental labour. also consider the fact that mental labour requires more skill formation than manual. such skill formation involves investment and enhances labour productivity.
