Can they really make you wait THAT long before turning it back on? I'd make some phone calls becuase that sounds crazy, especially since you paid it... call them back and speak with a supervisor and let them know you have children in the house.

To tamper with the gas is a walk into the deep end of the pool here, little one !! In a lot of cases-- with the disconnect comes the real possibility of leaks that develop within the change of pressure that is created between there being pressure within the lines and then there not being pressure within the lines----and even the smallest leak created by this situation can mean MAJOR risk of blowing the bloody hell out of yourself and everyone near you !! AND--- even if this were not the case and you were lucky enough not to have a leak that had developed--- there is MAJOR criminal action that can be taken by the Gas Co for "theft of services" and believe me here--- a reconnect fee is a walk in the park in comparison to THIS cost !!!
Tuff this one out and get back on track here--- otherwise you could be looking at serious problems on a number of levels that you just don't need clouding up the works for you !!!!

Don't try to reconnect it. Wait for the legal solution. You would have to jury rig some pipes that would undoubtedly leak, putting dangerous gas into your home. Bad idea.
Take a shower at the "Y" boil water on your electric stove. Do anything but try to circumvent the legal way of doing things.

Sorry to hear about your problem, but if you use back on the gas without the gas company doing so you can get into some real trouble. Not been ugly but the gas company will call that stealing and you could wind of going to jail and paying for the purpose of gas you used. It's not worth it. You will just have to sit it out. But in the mean time you can purchase a hot plate to cook on. Walmart and Kmart carries it.

I agree with "Sensible" above, doing that is just asking for a explosion and more problems than sitting in your house cold. Put on your long sleeves and your jacket, turn up some electrical heaters or go stay at someone elses place until its done and next time pre-authorize your bill so it doesnt happen again.

If you had a problem with paying the bill, thats one thing. If you turn it back on yourself (or anyone besides the gas company) you will REALLY have a problem. They can fine you, take you to court for theft of service, and lastly but most important, you may blow up the apartment if the cut-off has caused a leak in the lines. Normally, after a shut-off they check the lines for leaks before turning it back on. Please don't do it.

It's illegal to reconnect it yourself, not the least reason being that it is dangerous. If you screw up so that gas leaks and the building blows up, you and your neighbors are quite dead.

Why didn't you just ask for an extension? Alot of companies are willing to help people out, just don't take advantage of the situation. I hope you can get it back on A.SAP! Good luck!!!
