i think that it is a build up of old blood around the eyes...

you will need to rub a moisturiser around your eyes ( clock wise ) morning and evening do the circle's for about 20/30 seconds. ( this may take a week )

you should see a difference............

There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:
Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (e.g. Knox) from grocery store. Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one tablespoon of boiling water & stir for a minute. Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel. Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath & let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K & Biotin. It will not remove your dark circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles.

Lack of sleep is not the only cause of dark circles. It could be sinus and/or allergy issues, it could be genetics, or it could even be deep-set eyes - with very deep-set eyes, if the top of the eye socket stands out enough over the bottom, it can cast a shadow that looks like dark circles.

See a dermatologist to help you determine the cause, and to see if anything can be done.

Maybe you think your sleep but wake up many times throughout the night. I know thats a growing problem. You can go to a sleep lab and see if thats it...it could be your diet..or heh i just took a developmental bio test and learned about a process called apoptosis~aka programmed cell death. Basically 1 of the signs of this process not functioning correctly is dark color around the eyes..Whatever it is im sure makeup can help.

Try applying Clinique's Eye Repair Cream every night.
It helps improve the dark skin under your eye. It leaves a very soothing/cool feeling and you will notice the difference after a few months of continued use...

Do you have allergies? I was told that's a drawback to allergy suffering. Also, Mary Kay has a yellow concealer and 4 shades of facial highlighting pens that seem to work very well. Go to marykay.com to find a consultant in your area. She should be able to give you a complimentary facial to let you try out the product and see what you think.

Check your diet. Do you eat healthily? I think you can get some cream for it though. Heavy drinkers get the dark circles too

Do you drink a lot of coffee or coke? Caffeine does that to me, I go on the de-caff, no more dark circles. Honestly.

maybe you are not getting "quality" sleep.

if you have restless legs syndrome or narcolepsy, your sleep might be sporadic through out the night.

Have your Dr. send you to a sleep clinic for a Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT). to see if that is the problem.
