I ride in the MS150 charity bike ride every year and I work the Jerry Lewis telethon every year. I also volunteer at a school my job has adopted as a volunteer tutor.

Yes Yes Yes.

I give money, time, talent, etc. to charity.

I even do the BS (in my opinion) charity ball event things, at least the ones with my people...of course I wouldn't be invited to a "society" ball...

I believe you should give money and time to charity. I give to many types (political, social, animals, environment, health, children, elderly, veterans and soldiers). This is part of civic participation, being a good Christian, and just plain being a good human being.

I think that everyone should do things "outside" of their own circle too: I could only give to Black people, but other people need help too and it is ignorant to do something like that.

Local, state, national, and international organizations get my time and help.

I evaluate each charity and choose those I think are the most useful.

Here are some I give time and money and talent to and why:

Red Cross - they are international responders and I think handle money pretty well

Restoration Church and Salvation Army - they work with substance abuse and families and although these are not popular and inspire hatred amongst middle America they are very necessary works

Open Doors - Christians all over the world are being persecuted just as in Biblical times and need our time and money

Girl Scouts Girls Inc Boys Clubs Boy Scouts - the children are our future enough said!

The Sierra Club, World Wildlife Fund, SPCA, PETA, National Wildlife Foundation - animals need our help they are being destroyed and hurt

Veterans of Foreign Wars Soldier Fund - Veterans have fought for many years (every man young and old in man family has served in some form of military service) and some are poor, not like us, and some are sick and the new soldiers and Marines, (my brother is a Marine), need help for their families, especially if they are not well off

St Jude One Church One Child Make a Wish Head Start

Children are our future and some of them are sick too!

I hope you get a million responses. Everyone can help. A phone call, a dollar, an hour spent somewhere...

People can even just say a prayer for everyone that needs help and it will help.

Everybody should be doing SOMETHING!

I always give to the food bank. I have signed up twice to volunteer with different services but then back out because of different reasons.( Mostly my own insecurities.) I do donates to several charities and if I had my way there would never be a stray animal on the streets or an abandoned baby. I run for the breast cancer awareness every Oct. What do you do???

Every week my husband has a portion of his paycheck sent to the United Way and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. St. Jude's was a great help to us when our daughter needed a diagnosis and we like to give back to them whatever we can. The United Way was also a help to my mother in law many years ago when her house was destroyed in a flood.
