Along with the two big hoses connected to your radiator are two smaller hoses that go towards the passenger compartment. Follow them and not where they pass through the firewall. Just inside the passenger compartment in that area there will be a small box containing a small radiator and some control valves. When you turn heat on, it allows hot coolant to run through that box, and a fan blows that warm air through vents to keep the car warm on cold days. Through a system of (usually vacuum controlled) values, that air can be directed to where ever it is needed, from the windshield to defrost it to your feet, depending on where you set it.

A heater core is a small radiator in which the warm engine coolant(oxymoron) circulates,
usually located behind the glove box, in an enclosed compartment. A squirrel cage fan is mounted to the compartment to circulate the air.

It is a smaller version of a radiator and is located on the passenger side of the car, under the dash. It allows the fan to blow over it and sends the heat to where you have the dial set. EX: defrost, heat, dash, etc... You will be able to find it easier by following the 2 hoses from the radiator and water pump, to the fire wall of your car/truck on the passenger side.It will be around the same spot as your air conditioners vacuum canister.

I assume you have a standard car. It is the tubes inside the heater that the hot water runs though to produce the heat exchange with the air blown through it. Is it leaking?
