Kapil Dev was the coach of India during 1989 - 90 period and was not able to do anything significant.
We must go for a foreign coach only this will bring in International ideas and techniques for the players to get trained up.
Dave Whatmore has expressed eagerness to coach India, I feel he is the right choice.

Kapil Dev did serve a short stint as a coach but didnt have a good record. Anyways, more then Kapil Paaji or Greg Chappel or anyone else, its the team that needs some major revamping and they need to do some serious soul searching. Our coaches and managers have been very good. But ultimately its our players who are going to play the game and not coaches. As a famous saying goes, "A Father will teach you how to produce kids, but he will not actually produce the kids, will he ?" I think in the last 20 years, Ajit Wadekar was the best coach/manager we ever had.

I know that the idea of a foreigner coach is not appealing to most of the Indians but the truth is that non of the names presented so far seem impressive to replace Chappell. I think there are so many great coaches out there who can help team India regain their prestige. The problem in coaching Indians is that they have Hugh ego and a lot of interference from everyone associated with cricket and that includes even the media people. Once you hire a person, you should let him do his job without watching over his shoulders all the time.

I too agree with U, both Kapil and Amarnath could be the best coach, but Indian cricket is full of politics, it time when even the common men should be given the right ton vote and choose the team and coach. its time to take strict action against the players. Its shame on Indian team

Kapil Dev is such a businessman, that he do not have time for his own business and as well as his some of the assignments regarding sports like, Golf, etc. So such people can not concentrate on jobs like coaching. And he also thinks, I feel that the job of the coach is a thankless job.

Kapil Dev, it appears, is not interested to take up the assignment of Coach as it is evident from the fact that he has proposed the name of Sunil Gavaskar for the task.
The problem with the Indian Players is that some of the senior players find it hard to obey the coach as they think themselves great. I think that may be one of the reason why BCCI had opted for foreign coach thinking that if it is foreign coach, he will get some respect from these players as compared to Indian coach.

kapil dev is to emotional to be coach, remember he broke down in tv channel few years ago.He has a larger then life image and will only add to the media focus on the team.
we need a professional and determined person fully focussed on is job and keeps a low key profile.

India is doing properly and not using a coach , they gained the T20 W.C and not using a coach , however they have a fielding & bowling coach ....& its reliable that they are the two are indians (Robin Singh & Venkatesh Prasad ) So if BCCI comes to a decision for a coach , atleast it shoud be Indian .Why supply credit to a pair foreigner while team does properly . yet i think of modern subject is working positive .
