There are two tests commonly taken -- the SATs or the ACTs.

The better schools want you to take the SATs.

Most of the time, yes. Some good colleges have their own tests, and some will except other equivalents. You can enter through community colleges though, and a British HND or access degree can be considered equivalent to American community colleges.

I've known a few foreign students to get around some of the requirements, but if you don't take SAT's they'll probably want TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores.

You can take SATs in England. Now is too late to apply to the best Universities for this year anyway, the next deadline is November. That should give you enough time to prepare.

Not all 4 year Universities in the US require the SAT or ACT. They're not prestigious though.

It depends on the University you are applying to, but most do require the SATs.

what do you think? it's even compulsory for American Students. Why in the world would English students be exampt? Royal waivers?

Im from dhaka.and its same here and there.If u are from english medium then u dont have to worry if u r from other medium of studies then u have to do sat,ielts,etc. Sat= student attitude test.

Basically it is up to the universitiy. Usually it is the SAT but sometimes the ACT or even BOTH!!! well, check out the uni's webbie. You can see the reqiurements there.
