in response to the first post, f1 attracted 588 million unique viewers worldwide according to the global broadcast report. that means nearly 10% of the worlds viewers watching it - China alone provided 177 million viewers.

ive said it here before and i'll say it again, a contract for a single broadcast company to do the show for every race, the biggest problem is the local focus on the local teams or drivers, we watch monza and we see lap after lap of a ferrari running hot laps uncontested, when there is a battle going on in the back of the field, spain we watch fernando do a pit stop when there is real action going on on the race track,

i would rather watch a spyker and a toro rosso battle at brazil than watch massa do a out lap from the pits,

and the last one the one that alwayse gets me loads of thumb downs...... full coarse yellows, it bunches up the field and and promotes passing, remember monoco a couple of years ago the caution in the last 20 laps made fror one of the best monoco finishes ever.... i dont say throw it all the time like nascar but one or two a race makes for better action on track

Obviously no one that as answered this question, and even the queston itself, knows, watches or ever been to a F1 race.
Outside the small world of sports in the USA, such sports as F1 have more following than the so called NASCAR and INDY racing.
F1 is a multi billion dollar industry and those that are fans are "burried" in the aura of the sport.
Its a religion, way before there was NASCAR and INDY, nd yes they are the fastest driving sport in the world!
Its amazing how fast they can go and do no compare to pro stock car racing because running 100 yards is not a comparison and no oval either!
The sport is great and the TV channels do a great job, outside the USA. Almost every car has a camera, and viewers can ear the team radios now during the race.
Its great!

Get more independence into the production of the footage. As far as I can tell the race pictures (as opposed to pit-lane interviews etc) of each Grand Prix are taken by the host broadcaster, i.e. at the British Grand Prix, the race pictures are all done by ITV.

The problem with this is that each producer tends to focus on what his own country's audience wants to see. So you get situations like German races where we watched Schumacher cruising round at the front with no-one challenging him while there might actually be some interesting racing going on a few places behind.

Each individual F1 race is watched by more people worldwide than any other sport is the demographic, only the World cup final and the olympics draw larger crowds but they are only every 4 years, as well you know.

Basically (from an automotive background POV) F1 needs to reduce or remove the rear wing to allow cars to follow more closely in the corners albeit at a lower speed, but this would allow for a better "run" into the straights. Much wider tyres to give more grip in the corners for more overtaking opportunities.

All this faffing about with engine sizes and grooves in tyres is nonesense and enforced due to manufactures pressuring the FIA into allowing htem to develop ideas for thier road cars on the cicrcuit. Its a step forward for our road cars but a step back for real driving and the passion we as motorsport fans feel.

It's unacceptable to be watching a race and have them cut to commercial. They can run their commercials before and after, but not during the race. The other thing I don't like is the gimmicky sounds like swooshes when the graphics come up. Speed Channel does not need to jazz up the sound with rock music. All I want to hear is the sound of the cars engine. The commentators should also actually go to the races, not be in some studio watching it on TV like us.

I think you need to cut out the adverts.
I hate how many ad breaks there are during the race, You never get that during a football match.
And I also think you need to make it more female friendly.
Also if the night races do happen I think the far east and Australian grand Prix will get more viewers.
I think it also needs to be advertised more and maybe do a bit more promo like the parade they done in central london a few years ago. There was about half a million people there from all over the world

I don't think it's that bad at all, certainly not a problem with the graphics. My biggest complaint is the same as some others', I'd like to see a single producer do all the races, for consistency's sake. Still, I don't think it's bad, every race is a weekend-long TV event in my house.

Where did you get that demographic ? Because it's football followed closely by athletics, not F1.

The reason is because it's just a procession, no over-taking to speak of and it's far duller for the spectator than it used to be. Add to that adverts everywhere and you have the reason why it's not so popular. Plus the common man can't do it.
