I think happiness is in the moment and is determined by the current circumstances. But contentment and joy are decisions. For those of us in America (certainly those with access to a computer), life is a thousand times better every day than for many across the world. Be grateful! Choose to dwell on the good stuff.

It depends on the person. I was convinced that I could make everything negative in my life into a positive by seeing it as a learning experience. Then I stopped doing drugs and realized that I probably wouldn't be happy as a bag lady. Success just gives you more tools for happiness. Like if I ever get off Y!A and get a job, then I'll be able to buy some blow. Thus...happiness.

From the way you put it, it seems as if Happiness is a choice that results in more happiness. So i just might be both.
But for me, happiness is a choice. because it comes down to us picking the stuff or the events that make us happy. if we say that this certain thing makes us happy then it will no matter whoever says differently.

I agree with you.
Today people work very hard everyday. For what? To get money. Theyt think that the so-called material happiness can buy happiness. They think that money is the only thing that can buy happiness. It is very narrow-minded and wrong.
Think about other things that can make you happy. Love. Friendship. Doing something you like. Family gathering. Helping other people. Community work. Learning.
The list goes on

I think it half and half. Yes we work towards what we think will make us happy. But it also a state of mind. If you choose to be happy with your life, every thing should fall into place to help you achieve this goal.

Happiness is a matter of choice. You can choose to be happy or otherwise. Everything is relative, so if you compare yourself with the better-offs, you'll always be unhappy. Always compare ourselves with those more unfortunate than us and we'll be happy for life.

We work for a living, and in the process, forget to spend time to pursue happiness. Like everything else in life, we will get happiness only if we put conscious effort to get it.

Maybe happiness lies in that pursuit, not just the end result.

Emotions are choices. We choose to be happy, or angry, or sad, or whatever.
