So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.
Why haven't we heard from them?
Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.
Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.
Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.
Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.
Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.
It is really impossible to know for sure.
The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

Frank Drake, who was I believe an astronomy prof at Cornell, came up with an equation that said basically if one in a million stars has a planet and one in million planets could have life and one in million planets with life develops a civilization then, dividing that into the number of stars you get some preposterously large number......like several million.... planets that have intelligent life on them. Right now. As we sit here on an Internet that was wild science fiction 15 years ago.
Is there intelligent life out there? You bet!
Will we ever be in contact with them? Well, Stephen Hawking is working on it; and 100 years ago, no human had ever flown an airplane, and 60 years ago it was thought airplanes couldn't ever fly thru the "sound barrier" at 700 mile an hour and 50 years ago it was feared we could never go to the Moon because cosmic rays would fry the astronauts.......

FRIEND,
There is no rule that there should be oxygen, atmosphere, food, water etc to make a thing live.
in the tiny Planet Earth. we see so many different species with different conditions for their living.A man needs oxygen, food and water and sun light to a tolerable level.
trees survive on carbon di oxide and sunlight and water.
Fish, in depest waters live in darkness with the available oxygen in water and they have evolved to live in that atmosphere of darkness.
There are bacteria in the bottom most point of oil drilling shafts.kilometers below earh..they sustain the heat and pressure there and live, beget and die.
So to think that in this VAST UNIVERSE ONLY ON EARTH LIFE EXISTS is not reasonable,
There may be life in other planets ,distant from us, which live without air ,water etc or survive in the available atmosphere there. Why should not they live so/they may even be invisible to human eye as our eye is having limited capacity of vision. It cant see all colours (say UV ,IR) ..and our ears cant hear a frequency beyond a certain range ( I think it is 20 c/c to 22000 c/s we hear ..i may be wrong)But we cant hear radio waves or other waves around us.we cant see the Tv signals that carry pictures. We have limited levels..for our good .
So, if this is true, why can't there be some creatures more intelligent or less intelligent in distance planets that have evolved to survive with available things there.
just because , we cant see , it is not proper that we say they do not exist.the universe is very vast..earth is infinitely small.
There may be more civilised and more cultured beings else where.Until we see them, at least let us believe that there is a possibility.Don't categorically say No.
So many things man believed that they did not exist are now accepted by him.
Time will tell us.
as per me. I believe there are ALIENS.

Assuming you mean aliens with intelligence, the jury is still out. However, statistically speaking, the probabilities are high that intelligent life does exist elsewhere in the Universe. The real question is will we ever find it. And where. More than likely, it will have to be within our own galaxy. Other galaxies are too far way for us to explore!

Although no proof exists that there are intelligent beings in other parts of the universe, they must surely exist.
Their life would be based on some sort of DNA,probably close to what we are.
They could look like anything you could imagine but they would probably think like us and theorize about our existence.
It is not logical to think that we are alone in a universe this size.
In some way the universe developed the capacity to become aware of itself and we are that awareness,it must have duplicated this situation millions or billions of times in all corners of the universe it wouldn't stop at just us.
We and other intelligent beings are the eyes and ears of the universe, the factor that took it out of the status of an unknowing beast.

Didn't you see E.T. ? I dated his sister (who strangely was also known as ET - no dots) for a couple of years. So yeah, they exist. Back in the 60's they even had a TV show about My Favourite Martian. Then there was Mork from Orc and ALF - he liked cats, sai they taste like chicken. Lots of movies have been made so there must be Aliens out there... latest reports from the Mars Rover says there are green people up there.

Odds are for it.
Odds are against them coming here, but the odds that on some distant planet orbiting a distant star is life unlike ours is high. The odds that life has anything we regard as intelligence is much lower, but not zero. (Think of Earth. Out of a few billion species only one can read this.)
rahul, we are talking aliens, not fairies. ("Clap you hands if you believe in Klingons.:)")
nicky nawlins, In the 1950s we developed the SR-72 Blackbird to replace the U-2. It was secret until the 1990s. Do you think other secret aircraft exist? (BTW, the SR-72 is black and cigar shaped.) No one needs to violate physics to explain UFOs

U are an alien..
See I dont know you... So u r alien to me....
It depends on how u see them....
There are chances that aliens may exist.... There was a documentary in Discovery channel about UFO's .... There waz this lady sitting in a chair who said that she waz being controlled by aliens to communicate with the other humans... She said that aliens actually came to Earth long before.... wen we became homo sapiens and mated with us... And they built these big structures of StoneHenge,Pyramids, etc etc
Crazy people heh ?

Yes they exist according to high ranking officers in our own military. Maybe its time we listen to the men and women who protect this country and see what they have to say about it?
