I am half-Jewish---was adopted, and birth father was a yeshiva Jew. I read a lot. I am a Christian, but I feel like I have a Jewish soul. There is this whole thing going through world history about hating Jews. I don't get it. What is it about Jews that focuses so much negative attention and hatred on them? I have always believed that, behind every racial/ethnic stereotype, there is something real. What is real here? What is the reality behind anti-Semitism?

Well, you can say for the better part of history the Jews were hated for being different- For example- Shabbat (Saturday), is a rest day in the Jewish world. But unlike Sunday for Christians and Friday for Muslims- Jews don't do any kind of work, and don't use fire (Nowadays- all electronics, transportation ETC).
They were also thought of as the reason of illness and death because that they got sick less than non-Jews (Hygiene is very important in Judaism, and this is a time were baths were once in a blue moon)
Later on (20th century) Jews were hatred because they were considered the "lesser spices" (Nazi Germany used this reason among others to commit genocide amongst the Jews.) Furthermore Jews were always thought of as money people- They were very successful in the area of banking (Rothschild for example)- So this too cause jealousy which evolved into hatred.
Nowadays Perhaps anti-semitism is caused by just pure and stupid hatred and (Most likely in Arab countries) the fact that Israel exists

They make a great scape goat for dictators and liberals,

they can blame them for their own failures and turn their flocks heads from the real problem,

Don't worry the only thing that counts is that the conservatives support Israel No matter what the opposition says.

It's amazing how the left wants to change history , Europe is not teaching the Holocaust in social science any more and in California they want the same thing. Berkley teaches a class on the Apartheid off the Palestinians,

Most Jew haters, hate America too. We'll stick together and wupp their aspes any how, GOD WILLING.

Anti-Semitism has its roots in the death of Jesus.

Most people think collectivistly, and are thus easily influenced by collectivist thinking. Couple that with the human nature of scapegoating, it becomes easy to scapegoat an entire race of people for their assumed role in the death of the father of Christianity.
The real reason? Because Jews are generally so successful. The reason for that? Because education, self-reliance and an adherence to Capitalism are stressed in Jewish culture.
Anti-Semitic thought then twists that into a blame game, insinuating that the only reason a race of people could be so successful is because they stole their wealth from non Jews.

There is a long history behind it. If you can, you should visit the Holocaust museum in DC, someday. They give a very detailed accounting of the history of antisemetism.

Throughout history, it has been beneficial to authoritarian leaders to be able to point to an internal enemy to focus anger away from themselves. By maintaining their own cultural identity separate from their surrounding culture, Jews have frequently been an easy target.

I was surprised to learn that one of the worst offenders was Martin Luther. He started out thinking the reason the Jews did not accept Christianity was because of all the abuses of the church. He assumed that once he put reforms in place, they would come rushing in to be baptised. When they did not, he became enraged and concluded they were just evil and started giving vehemently anti-semetic sermons. He certainly did not invent antisemetism, but he did a lot to institutionalize it in most of Europe.

1) You either are a Jew or you are not...you are not. Your mother must be a Jew in order for you to be a Jew.

2) Jews are notoriously on their own. They dress differently and are extremely non-conformist. This makes them the ideal target for any racial/ethnic ridicule or hate...beside the 'fact' they killed Jesus. (Christian should thank them for it or else what religion would they have?)

What is real? All of it.. none of it. You can never judge all by looking at the few....All Americans are John Wayne. All Canadians are mounties. All Germans wear lederhosen. All Eskimo's pi$$ ice-cubes... It just isn't true.

I have never understood it either. I don't think there is any reality, just ignorance and intolerance. Arab children are taught that Jews are animals in Muslim schools. I see anti-Semitism from many Americans as well. It is shameful.

Don't know. I've often wondered that myself. I'm not Jewish but I don't see any reason to dislike Jews or Israel.
Most people have hate towards others and don't even know why. Like the hatred toward the President, why?
