Also, should the persecuted smoker keep to the lines draw by the non-smokers and deny him a warm by his fire and a hot drink and meal?

You're so wrong juan. The smoker hasn't forgotten that the non-smoker had him moved outside in all weathers to enjoy his tax contributions. The lighter comes with the territory ;)

Personally I would have no problem sharing the island with a smoker. The only thing is I wouldn't want to be around the smoker for too long when his cigarette supply ran out. In the spirit of the question I don't really understand the hypocritical persecution of smokers. I never have smoker nor am I ever likely to, but the fact is smoking has been a reality and a staple of many an economy for centuries!

I would go with the non smoker, I reckon I have watched enough Ray Mears to start a fire without a lighter.... Plus the smoker would be a right pain in the @ss when their cigs ran out.

Wouldn't worry too much as unless the smoker managed to save a huge amount of tobacco or cigarettes from the wreck or whatever and which is unlikely as they would all be concentrating on saving their lives,His stock won't last long and he will be a non smoker like the rest of you for the next few years until you are rescued.

Even though I hate smoking, I'd take the smoker, because you could light signal fires with a lighter and maybe get rescued. Also, you could make hot meals, at least until the lighter fluid ran out!

I choose the smoker, and yes, after years of persecution, I would draw a line, and say, hey, I have food, and fire, but we can't share because you don't like smokers. Revenge is sweet.

Smoker - Easier to make fires, and if you're annoyed by the smoke just move away from them, gotta be a large island!

The smoker- (s)he may have a lighter; but if they don't have cigarettes they cannot do a great deal.. and the lighter can be used to start fires for warmth and cooking.

Take the island with the smoker, you forgot to give him cigarettes so he cant kill you with secondhand smoke but he does have a lighter that will make the job of cooking fish easier.
Really not giving him cigarettes in the scenario makes the question kind of pointless.
