I am moving house on Saturday, and have to move my bed as part of this.
The bed itself comes into two segments and seems easily transportable (in two journeys), but the mattress is king sized, and huge?

When we moved recently and had only a few items, we rented a small truck from U-Haul. The price was relatively cheap and we were able to move everything in one trip! At least if it rains you won't need to worry, good luck.

One way NOT to is take a truck lay it flat and have a friend or two sit on it. I recall reading about one guy who did this and the wind picked up the mattress, flipped him on the highway and killed him.

Tie it down and place heavy furniture on it. Or a van.

Most mattress "handles" are designed for rotating and flipping purposes only, and may separate if used to carry the entire mattress weight. Fabricate a carrier from nylon rope or straps.

Transport properly to avoid this!

Gather 3 or 4 friends, make sure one has a pickup truck. Get your friends to help you pick up the monster, carry it out, throw it in the back of the truck. When at new location, reverse procedure described above. Hope your new place doesn't have stairs. :)

Most mattresses have handles made of polypropylene or something similar on the sides to help you in carrying it, like you did when you moved in.

turn it on its side or get a bungy rope, bend the mattress over rap the bungy round and interlock the hooks then just take it vertically out of your doors etc

I always used a pickup or U-Haul. Tying it on the roof is an option, but only for low speeds.

Why don,t you hire a van, it,ll be a lot easier and you,ll get the stuff moved a lot quicker.

See if you can borrow that flying brass bedstead from 'Bedknobs & Broomsticks'?
