I believe it was Bill Gullickson in 1991. He definitely did it after Jack Morris (who's last 20 win year for the Tigers was 1986).

As for Verlander, I'm projecting him to win about 17-18 this year. I think they're really going to look at limiting his innings later in the season to try to avoid wearing him out like he did toward the end of last year. He's a young kid, and they definitely don't want to ruin him.

No
It is extremely difficult for a pitcher to win 20 games in the game today because pitchers don't pitch as often as they used to. Look at Santana last year; he was absolutely dominant and won only 19 games. The pitchers with the best chance to do it are NL pitchers because the league as a whole is not as good. In the NL teams are generally really good or really bad, whereas in the AL most teams are at least decent.
I'm not saying it can't be done. A few AL pitchers have done it in the last few years, but it is very very difficult.
I'd give Verlander 17 if he stays healthy

It wasn't Jose Lima, was it?

I don't think Verlander has a shot at 20. Santana only won 19 last year. Relief is being use earlier and more frequently and the 20 win season is quickly becoming like the 25 win season - rare.

I would say that Verlander can win 20 games this year, and I hope so, I have him on my fantasy team, haha. I have no idea what Tiger last won 20 games, but I would guess Jack Morris. I know Mike Maroth lost 20 games, right?

METS ARE GOIN 162-0!!! hahaha

Of course Verlander can win 20 games this year. The Tigers arguably have the best rotation in all of baseball. Phooey on the Bosox.

Barring any injury there's no reason to think of he won't-his ok/walk ratio is out-of-this international (approximately 5 to a million)..he replaced into certainly the sufferer of a sputtering Tiger offense for over a month in any different case his win finished could be bigger.(this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days replaced into the 1st time on account that 1950 it took any pitcher this many video games into the season to win 10 video games). The Tiger's offense seems to have got here across it truly is way bringing lower back recommendations of Tiger squads interior the 80's and whilst a pair of gamers could be overachieving marvelous now there are nonetheless a pair underachievers-so while issues even out he might desire to have consistent run production in the back of him.

Glad to see the old English D back, GP. They made me real nervous yesterday! I think Verlander can and will win 20 games as long as he stays healthy. I think whoever said Jack Morris is probably right.

Sure he can. But I don't think he will. I'm guessing 16-18 wins.

No idea who the last Tiger to win 20 was. Also, don't know how you can be sure people aren't looking it up. No matter. I'm not here for the points. :-)
