"We" are a group of bright, happy, but by no means complacent individuals who beleive in a "fair go" for others, and Who, for the most part believe in the equality of Humanity and are opposed to the inequalities of social injustice, discrimination (of all forms), non conformity and intolerance. We are Australians, the people of perhaps the only Nation on Earth that has never declared a War of Hostile Intent, yet has served to assist other Nations in Their campaigns to promote freedom and democracy. We are not a "Flag waving, Lapel Badge wearing Nation".We do not even take Our sense of Patriotism seriously. But woe betide any who cast aspersions upon Our concept of Patriotism. We are Patriotic to those aspects of Our Heritage and History, Birth place and Birthright that We choose to venerate, rather than those which Politicians and Commentators would endeavour to foist upon us. We sing Our National Anthem off key, and mumble the words to It because it is Our Right to do so. Yet We do not take kindly to others who would take the same advantage of Our good nature. We are quiet achievers, neither over, nor under. Just People who get on with the job at hand: and then take a three-day week-end at the beach. We are not a perfect community, and yet We are a combination of Peoples from around the globe who wanted to come Here rather than to any other place on the globe. We are One in a Million, One of a Kind, and (often) one sandwiche short of a picnic. We are Australia Day, ANZAC Day, Melbourne Cup Day, the Eight Hour Day School Holidays, and Week-ends. We fight bushfires, droughts and floods without a need for praise or recognition. The Royal Flying Doctor Service, Legacy, The Country Women's Association, and chook raffles for football clubs. We are the "G'Day Mate" to a total stranger, the offer to get in and "give it a go" for other which makes Us unique amoungst all the Nations of the World, and the "She'll be right attitude" that carries Us through the rough times. We do not all speak the same way, nor have the same accent. Yet We say the same thig when asked: "We are Australians", the People whom have to stop to think "Who" We are when asked that question. We are just working class humanity at it's best and most multi-faceted faceless crowd ever conceived.
If You have to ask this question of others then You have not yet learned enough about Yourself to call Yourself an Australian. Cherio, Mate.

To be Australian means you grew up in Australia, or you've lived there long enough that Australian culture's what does it for you. To be un-Australian means: * You don't watch the footy * You don't enjoy a BBQ with mates * You respect authority * You don't swear * You don't drink Fosters * etc... etc... Actually, it's kind of funny - I'm a very un-Australian Australian.

I love being Australian because we have a lot of personal freedom and most Aussies are friendly and easy-going. The weather is great and the country is beautiful, especially the beaches!

You have a history of rugged individualists much like the U.S. does; therefore, To be an Australian, is to be a person whose ancestors were rugged individuals.
