Serena has already tried her hand against a male player, back in the '98 Australian Open. Both she and her sister, Venus, had openly boasted that they were good enough to compete with the men. To their credit, they arranged to play a set each with Karsten Braasch, the 203rd ranked male player. He promptly beat them both 6-1, 6-2.
http://archive.southcoasttoday.com/daily/01-98/01-28-98/d05sp210.htm
Keep in mind that Braasch was a 30 year old has been, whose ranking plummeted to 339 the following week. He was also famous for being the catalyst behind the oncourt smoking ban, as he routinely lit up between sets during his matches. On the other hand, Serena and Venus were in the prime of their careers; young, injury-free, and dominating the WTA tour.
There's a reason that women players practice with their 50 year old male coaches; because it's competition. It's a fact of life that top male athletes are faster, stronger, and more powerful than top female athletes.
I never see questions of this nature posted in basketball, baseball, or other sports. Why? Because it's ludicrous to think that, for example, Lisa Leslie can compete with Steve Nash. Questions of this nature undermine the rigorousness of the sport and reduce the exceptional athletic accomplishments of its players- both male and female.
So no, I don't agree that Serena Williams would have won the men's as well as the women's event at Indian Wells (especially since she didn't even play it).

First of all, Serena won the ladies event at Miami, not Indian Wells. Next, ferocious though she may look, she's no match a power for ANY man ranked inside the top 100. That's the restriction with women, and Serena's no exception. By the way, she didn't have a cakewalk in all her matches. Justine almost got her out in straight sets.

Remember men and women are made differently. Men have the advantage of muscular development and mass amounts of testosterone during puberty unlike women. Therefore, men are physically stronger than females almost any given time because :
1. the limit of muscle production is a lot higher than women's.
2. Muscles give them a large boost of stamina and strength where as a woman wouldn't have as much as a man ever.
Now, I'm not saying Serena can't beat any guy in the top 100, but it is really unlikely she would because:
1. Difference in physical strength and stamina between man and woman.
2. Different tennis basically. Also women's tennis plays 2 out for 3 sets while men's plays 3 out of 5. She would not be used the longer matchplay and would seriously have to boost her stamina to compete.
It would be nice to see her play against the guys but I'm sure she wouldn't fair too well given these boundaries that she would have break. Just a reminder, I'm not sexist, I'm a realist. I'm just talking about physical advantages men have over women in the game of tennis.
It would be fun to see Serena own Federer though XD.

Do you mean Miami? Cas she did not play at Indian Wells. She and her sister Venus will most likely never play there again. Remember what happened?
She sure sominated the women's side. And, had she competed on the men's side she probably would have won just for the fact that Federer was eliminated. Would have been nice seeing Serena vs. Roger in the final. Federer probably winning in three sets, with the final set being a long tie-breaker.

I have wondered myself just how good Serena would be if she tried to enter one of the men's tournaments.
As for the playing at Indian Wells, I was reading something under the Tennis section of Yahoo Sports that said that the WTA Tour is talking about making Indian Wells one of the mandatory tier 1 events and that Serena and Venus may sue over this. The reason they may sue is because of something that happened the last time she played there according to what the article said. She got jeered or something like that.
