Modano is the typical prima-donna american star. A big mouth, way over-rated and real short on delivery in the clutch. He also plays like he carries a purse.

Mike Modano is one of the most loyal players in NHL , he's loyal to organization and to game it self. So I don't really know that many people saying something bad about him , sometimes he has had some critical comments about his "soft" style - so what he always use to be very valid player for his team , yes he's not that fast anymore , he doesn't make big offensive numbers , but it still nice watch him playing. And I've never been his or Stars fan.

I think he is one of those players that is loved or hated, nothing in between. He has been the face of the Stars and a lot of people think he is over rated. He just became the highest American born goal scorer and is close to becoming the all time American born points leader. He does have to be some what good to achieve those two things. I also believe people still don't take Americans as real hockey players. It's not our sport. There is also the fact the he doesn't play a physical game. Anytime he takes a hit or something, someone always jumps in for him. He can't stand up for himself. I myself am a big Stars fan but don't care for him. He has always seemed a little selfish to me.

I do like Modano and I think he still plays pretty decent (not great) for a "veteran". I haven't heard anything bad about him but I know that he has his own foundation for neglected and underprivelaged kids. On his website his mom has her own little "moms corner" about him, so I guess you could say he is a mama's boy too. I hear he is engaged to Willa Ford. I have heard people in the Dallas area call him "the pretty boy of NHL" .. www.mikemodano.com

I hate Modano because in the weeks leading up to the lockout when questioned about taking a paycut that would have brought his salary down about 20 percent to 35000 a game his response was"I couldnt feed my dog with 35000 dollars a game".

In my case, it was that fluke goal he scored in triple overtime of Game 5 of the 2000 Stanley Cup Finals. But the Devils won Game 6 in double overtime (Jason Arnott past Ed Belfour, on a spectacular pass from Patrik Elias), so I'm willing to overlook it.

Ironically, his biggest downfall is probably just being loyal. 17 years in 2 cities and one team. But that means, their annoying fans hold him up as too much of a all star when he is more like a big fish in a little pond. Over paid, over hyped, and way past his best before due date. The stars, especially during the North Star years, pumped him as their big star instead of pulling in real talent. And they therefore tended to pay him a bit more as he was their best.
If you hate Dallas, your hate Modano. They and he have a boring style of play that makes it easy to hate them.

A couple of years ago he was having a poor season, when asked about it he said his mind was not on the game because some financial investments he had made were not doing well.
That's not going to win you any points with fans!

Nothing specific really. People just like to hate the good players. I like him personally and I am not a Dallas fan at all. I STILL think he looks like Ricky Nelson, too!

I am indifferent about him. He may have been an even better player had he had the opprotunity to play in a more offensive system besides Dallas.
