Not this year, NO WAY, I live in Chicago. I have been saying for decades, $$$ buy some good Players. And The Biggest thing is the PITCHING STAFF, in every year they got close the Pitching was very good. Example, look at the White Sox Pitching staff when they won the Playoffs & World Series, they were Un-stopable !! NO manager can get anyone to win if you Don't
have the talent, and pitching is # 1 Maybe next year with a new
owner, they will spend more. I pray they win soon, my dad is 81 and a fan forever!

Pinella could lead them to the World Series and win it. I just don't think it will be this year. He has a line up to be competitive in the Central, no question. But pitching is suspect. Zambrano is good enough to win the Cy Young, but after that there are a lot of question marks. If the Cubs could get Prior and Wood to pitch at a high level, which is the case every year then yes they could go. Wood is already hurt however, and Prior isn't getting past 85 mph on the gun. That is not good at the beginning of the season when your arm should be fresh. They need to solidify the bullpen a bit more and get another top notch starter. Lilly and Marquis are okay, but they should really be the Cubs number 4 and 5 starters. If Wade Miller returns to form that could be good. Just too many if's right now though. I think they are three years away.

i totally agree w/ DAVID Gs answer//// they seriously lack pitching to make a real run//// i am a MET fan and thought they would have the same problem but if the series against the cards is any indicator of met pitching this year the will take the NL especially if pedro comes back in decent form//// i do have to say that any real pitching from the cubs could make them serious contenders for the first time in awhile but they lack luck big time!!!!!! I mean they once had 2 of the most sensational starters going{woods & prior} now between them they can't win 20 games at the minor league level. With the cubbies luck i would'nt be suprised if zambrano's arm fell off.

The cubs do have a great lineup this year but they have also had the worst luck for years. Yes, Pinella is one of the greatest managers in the game but its going to take more than him for the cubs to win the ws.

No. The will finally get above 500, but they don't have good enough pitching to "win it all." Plus, team chemistry, a strong quality, is something all winning teams must have. Look at the past few World Series winners.

Of coarse. Just needs time to adjust. The cubs have one of the best lineups they have seen in ages. I believe Lou can do it

Sweet Lou will keep them in contention. If they make the playoffs its a winning season. Anything can happen in a short series....

You need players to win. I does not matter who the manager is. HRs and pitiching win it all not the manager. I could mamage the Yankees and win.
