If you notice, there's a social perception to your question. Have you ever heard someone ask that question on any other sport specifically? I know there's the general question of whether sports is a waste of time and the resounding answer is 'NO'. I've hardly ever heard a specific sport labelled out to being a waste of time. But when it comes to cricket it's split down to the middle.

Now don't get me wrong...kids who play all sports till the dark hours of the day obviously gets a good scolding from their parents telling them they are pushing it and wasting their time. I am targetting the viewing audience in this mostly, and to a lesser extent the participants.

People in the States consider, 3 hours of basketball quite dragged. Cricket takes up MORE than 6 hours. Soccer, has 45 minute halves and including intermission takes up less than 2 hours (unless there's overtime and penalties).

The amount of hours to view a cricket game is staggering...and this is only a one-day international game I am talking about (imagine a 5day Test game!). I used to play and watch cricket. I still try to play when I have a chance and keep in touch with the news. But watching cricket for 50 Overs is just too much and to people in certain countries who stop their work and be fanatical enough to waste so many hours is just wrong, for a sport that's played throughout the year. True it's a national sports to many...but you're better off supporting ur nation in other ways than sitting idly, ball for ball.

Wasting more than 6 hours of a day to WATCH a game is not worth it...your better off enjoying 3 soccer games in that time. You can play and watch alot of other activities that are conducive to your time. I either watch the game highlights or otherwise keep hoping they reduce the length of the game.

Hope this helps in your debate. Best of Luck.

Not everyone likes cricket, not everyone likes chess or shopping for shoes or driving or cooking.

I love cricket and watching it is an end in itself. Its a great game. 1 billion Indians can't all be wrong!

To me, shopping for shoes is a waste of time (thats what Ebay is for) and why should I cook when I have a phone and a menu (I'm exaggerating for comic effect).

You get out of an activity what you put into it. Cricket is a learning experience, the more you watch the more you learn and the more rewarding it is.

But if you come to it with preconceptions, or you aren't interested or you just don't like it then yes you are wasting your time and you should probably do something else...

Everybody has a different mood to another. We see TV to make our mind fresh or for entertainment. We should watch only those things which can give us some knowledge and some entertainment. In sport if u want to cheer ur country team and always hope for your country win then you should see sport which you like, whether this is cricket or any other game. But not see TV too much because this is harmful for your eyes.

For me, If my home country wins then I never feel it like a waste of time. Infact I'd be upset if I didn't watch, in that matter. However, once I have spend 8 - 9 hours in front of the telly and if they loose, I feel miserable and feel like I wasted my time. So it depends on who wins.

But once in a while spending an hour or two watching cricket (even if your country doesn't play in that game) doesn't make me feel bad atall. I enjoy it.

NOT AT ALL! if you like the sport you will enjoy watching it, and wont think it is a waste of time. However, if you don't like it and don't see the point on the sport, some will say it is a waste of time, i like the sport, last nights game was amazing! ENGLAND-SRI LANKA now that wasn't a waste of time! But different people have different opinions! x

Do you like it? If you like cricket so much, it isn't wasting time... But if you don't, I think people don't see what they don't like, right?

Well, you could say all sports are a waste of time and take the news away from real events...... and look how much money is being spent the could be spent elsewhere.... and look what it has spawned, murder and corruption.
