No way. We just use more electricity in the morning because it is so dark!

The amount of energy used in the morning because it will still be dark for an hour (which will be erased in a few weeks as the sun comes up earlier and earlier) will be less than the amount of energy that will be saved in the evening when people are out and about. I've seen some stupid rationalizations against extending DST but the one about retailers and golf courses pushing this has to be the dumbest one I've ever heard (if the source is NPR, I'm not surprised). Ddi we ever think that there are people out there that actually like sunlight, and would like to have when we can use it, as opposed to when we're sleeping? If people are out and moving, is that a bad thing, especially considering we always here about how fat we are and we need to get out and exercize? Even were there no energy savings, DST is a great idea, and anything that extends a great idea is even greater.

It is too early to tell. The extension of Daylight Saving (not Savings) Time ("DST") is an experiment to studies on exactly that issue.

Congress gave a mandate to the Department of Energy to conduct studies are whether or not the extension of DST saves energy. Once the study of complete, we could very well revert back to the way that it was before.

Personally, I like it. I love spring and summer and I like to eat and cook outside. But that's just me.

No. Results are already coming in from power companies that there is really no measurable impact on net power usage due to early daylight saving time. Power companies have noticed an increase in power usage in the morning because sunrise times were relatively late.

Probably not, with everyone doing Q. & A's on PC's longer past midnite and resuming early morning as our addiction gets stronger. My place is cold still at this time of year, so that
means my space heater is turned on & aimed at me on the
PC spinning Edison's dial. I'd be in bed saving power had I
not looked to see what Answers is!

Neilsen Survey says my answer represents 1000

People still need to get up early in the morning and now it's dark - so you use the energy in the morning. I'm afraid it cancels out.
I saw on the news yesterday where they were talking about this very issue...but I just caught the tail end of it and didn't see what the result was.

I heard that fuel consumption went up for the month of March. I am guilty, we took sunset runs to the beach using gas a full 3 weeks earlier than we would.

Of course if you really think about it if America kept there lights off for 10 seconds how much we would save? now tell me an hour! sooner or later we will get used to it but i think its the same thing as every year they just decided to do it a month earlier.....

No, I definitely don't see that it saved any energy. I think it just messed up my computer and I can't get the correct time on it, and I don't go to bed until about 2 a.m. any way and so my lights are on over half the night anyway. I think they were just trying to play GOD and it isn't working. lol

No I think it caused more problems than anything else..More light outside..the more people wanted to go places so the gasoline went up in price as well.

Its all a conspriacy in life just for us to be broke and the suit to be rich.

I personally liked the earlier time change. I don't think it saved anymore more money though. But I liked it.
