The term 'cure' denotes that it is a disease. But in my mind, 'disease' is defined as that which makes life difficult and problematic, which causes problems . . . and being gay doesn't do that. Everything negative that comes from homosexuality actually comes from society's treatment of homosexuals. A gay person can do everything a straight person can do- including having children, with the help of technology. So where exactly does 'disease' come in?
What's the difference between disease and variation? Sexual orientation is merely a natural genetic variation, and is only seen as something that needs to be 'cured' because it's in the minority.
Theoretically, we could, with time and advancements, potentially mess with sexuality and sexual orientation- not cure it, because it's not a disease, but change it. But considering that we're just barely starting to learn how to manipulate human genes for things much more concrete than something as complex and nebulous as human sexuality, I just don't see it happening, at least for a long, long time.
Hope that helps.

While there has been a genetic marker found for gay men, there is yet to be found one for lesbians or bisexual folks.
This is a slippery slope of manipulating genes or even terminating pregnancies based on what some might find a fault. We're already into the sci-fi world of deciding, based on a DNA test, which children will be born. It all goes to ethics.
Homosexuality is a sexual orientation and nothing more. It is found in the animal kingdom and in man.
So, for all those religious zealots out there, if God created the World and everything in it, then God must have known 12 per cent of his human creations would be so oriented.

It means that it might be possible to change someone's sexuality. It doesn't mean that there's a cure, because homosexuality isn't a disease. It was delisted from the diagnostic manuals long ago.
Look at it this way. Having black skin is 100% related to genetics. Theoretically, there could be a 'cure' for that too.

Eye color and hair type are linked to genetics too. Are they working on a cure for that as well? I think you're looking for a cure to something that isn't a problem.

Yes. We could conceivably change one's sexual orientation if it proves to be of a genetic cause, and if the Human Genome Project isolates any genes as such.
Whether you'd classify that as a "cure" is what is debatable. Would it be considered "curing" someone of brown eyes if you genetically altered their eye color? Or better yet, is it "curing" someone of being male by giving him a sex change operation?
If it is genetic, then it holds to stand merely a trait, no different than any other phenotype that diversifies humanity.

they have found a "gay gean" but they are no where near being able to "cure" homosexual tendinitises. I do not think that they need to be "cured" the only reason to cure homosexuality is to cover up the fact that the religious people who would condemn us to hell for are nature have found that it is not choice. and for those of you ignorant enough to believe it is a choice I wonder when you chose to be straight.

Yes. All we have to do is fundamentally alter the DNA. You could do that, right?
Here's how to do it. Find a space anamoly, preferably close to earth. Send all the homosexuals into that anamoly and hopefully it will fundamentally alter their DNA. Either they will be cured, or they will come back super heroes like the Fantastic Four, and save the Earth from super villans. And the world will finally shut their mouths about homosexuals or get the living crap beat out of them. . . . . . I'm just saying. ( ;

on the reverse, wouldn't it indicate that there is a genetic cause of heterosexuality and thus a cure? Why fix what isn't broken? Homosexuality is no more a disease than heterosexuality.

Doesn't matter, I'd rather be myself, and accept myself, then take a pill in order to conform.
Homosexuality is normal for me, I have no other way I'd rather be.
Also, the norm for most people is some degree of bisexuality, nature puts it there, it requires it. If you eliminate sexual diversity, you go against the laws of nature.
Anyhow, even if there was a cure, I wouldn't take it to save my life. I'd rather die as myself, then live as someone else.

There is no proof that homosexuality is genetic. It has been claimed several times but each time science refutes the claim with solid scientific evidence that it is not. But fear not, if it is psychological there may very well be a cure.
