Since the mint mark is under the date, then I presume there is none so it was struck at the Philadelphia mint. There were 196,429,785 struck that year at that mint. The coin has a value of .10 in grade good to about $3 in grade extra fine, more if in mint state. The mintage is a high figure, but not as high as the years ,after WW I was over. In 1917 the U.S. entered World War One. So you may not have a real valuable coin money wise but it sure has history. maybe a guy going off to war gave it to his sweetheart or maybe brother or sister. Maybe some school child save it among others, to buy a Liberty or Victory war bond. Tour coin has live a long life and I wounder what travels it went on. To bad it could not talk for it may have some very interesting stories to tell. Hold on to it as a reminder that "the War to end all wars" didn't work. You have a piece of history in your hand.

It depends on the condition of the coin and which mint it was produced at. Also, it it has any defects that can be attributed to its manufacture , that would increase its value.
I searched on "1917 US Cent" and found a few examples ranging in value from $2 to $30.
They were in very good condition and Denver mint seemed to be worth more than San Francisco mint (Letter D or S beneath the year)
