At the part where Chet is eating the 96'er steak, and Roman says to the chef, well I think he's done. And the chef says, he's not done. Roman replies, whaddya mean he's not done, all that's left on there is gristle and fat!. And the chef makes a motion with his face, stating that Chet will win when he has eaten EVERYTHING off the plate, including the gristle and fat.

And after the chef makes that motion with his face, Roman says, can you get us some hats for the kids? Anyway, the question is, did Chet eat the gristle and fat or not? Or was it just assumed that he did?

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
He isn't actually shown eating it, but he did get the prized tshirt. So, I'd say it is assumed that he did.

It's just assumed that he did. I believe he came home with a t-shirt proclaiming his having eatin' the 96'er. Fun fact: When the family comes home and they start to go up the stairs, before John Candy pukes, you can see Dan Ackroyd counting to three as a cue for the cast to run down the stairs. It's a mistake you're not supposed to see.

It's implied that he did because all the kids got their shirts along with Chet
